Re: Budapest Népliget Bus Terminal - last minute lodging ideas nearby

you added pictures! And of my beloved hummus bar--thank you! You hit up my neighborhood in the right way . I hope you enjoyed the city despite the short stay. When you go for a more extended one--and trust me, Budapest's well worth it--I'll write up some proper travel tips for you.

Thanks again--the pictures made my day. I haven't been in awhile but am much needing to visit again...

Nice pictures, I hope you enjoyed your stay. The weather here is excellent today, if anything rather too warm at around 30 degrees where I am, probably get a spectacular thunderstorm this evening.

Re: Budapest Népliget Bus Terminal - last minute lodging ideas nearby

I enjoyed my rather brief stay but will be back in early September for a longer stay, probably for 5 days this time. I also liked the area as it is very convenient to get around - there is a railway station just about 50 metres away to explore other cities.

At the Synagogue, bike rentals are cheap, HUF2K ( or HUF500 cheaper through my host ) from Zed Bikes for half a day, almost double elsewhere. Unfortunately, most museums are closed on Mondays I discovered.

Some tours to add to the list:

Secret Tour - www.rockhoppers.hu

Caving Tour - interesting but am unsure if I am fit for it

The Reagan statue was a very recent addition I was told. The person who served me at that bar was very friendly, and although it was a busy day, he was patient enough with me ( explaining several items on the menu ) and did not mind me taking pictures ( I left a decent tip in the kitty ).

I learnt a lot about the 1848, 1956 and much recent events.

Some buildings still had bullet holes, I saw the old flag with the crest removed marking the memorial to the fallen in 1956, freshest water one can get right in the city, the former US embassy overlooking the last Russian Memorial, that holed up József Mindszenty and other sights.

Re: Budapest Népliget Bus Terminal - last minute lodging ideas nearby

Book through Deutsche Bahn for EUR39 one way ( cheaper if you have a BahnCard 25 ) if made 90 days in advance.

Alternatively the bus from St. Gallen, Zürich, Geneva or Berne:

CHF219 return by flight on Swiss from Geneva to Budapest no more to pay during promo days.
