Budapest Népliget Bus Terminal - last minute lodging ideas nearby

I got an email 5 minutes ago and it went like this despite having booked and paid 3 months ago:

Dear XXXXXXX,
I'm really sorry to tell you that due to maintenance the room you have booked for on Sunday 03.07 will be out of use so unfortunately we won't be able to accommodate you.
We are sorry for any inconvenience!
Andi
Paprika Hostel

I have looked at a few options, and either they are booked out for one night on 03.07 or have raised the prices substantially. Would anyone be good enough to suggest some place that I can easily reach at 11.15pm from the Népliget Bus Terminal on that date for a decent night of sleep without costing and arm and leg ? Ideally looking at max EUR20 as I am departing on Mon 04.07 at 11.30am.

Thanks in advance.

How about asking them for help? It seems very bad that they can take the money and then cancel your booking at the last minute. Maybe they'll feel a a bit guilty and do a deal with another hotel for you.

I wrote back something close to that effect but have not got an answer yet. They seem to be working on Sundays though.

Junior, Nepliget's on the M3 underground line so you'd have no problem getting into town from there. Which I suspect you might be better off doing--not sure how many hostels are out that way...

Are you leaving from Nepliget the next morning as well?

Re: Budapest Népliget Bus Terminal - last minute lodging ideas nearby

There are quite a few hostels in the Blaha Lujza area. That or something near Oktogon, where there also seem to be a few, would be quite convenient to get you to Keleti the next morning while also allowing you to see a tiny bit of the city.

According to this, you should still be able to reach both with public transport at that time of night.

TANJ!

Yes, I do, well, here's a list of hotels in the area: http://www.booking.com/landmark/hu/n...Fc0P3wod_wS8Mw

Ref transport the Budapest transport (BKV) is actually pretty good and you should be able to get where you need to at those times without problems. the Metro is fine - make sure you buy a ticket as there are inspectors at the entrances to most underground stations and they always check tickets. You can get day tickets for a decent price, individual tickets cost HUF 340 which is good value.
Failing that, Nepliget to Keleti is not that far anyway and you could always get a taxi - make sure you ask for the price when you get in the taxi though to make sure you don't get ripped off.

Enjoy Budapest!

Re: Budapest Népliget Bus Terminal - last minute lodging ideas nearby

2Night is a cheap hostel is not expensive at all and you can go there with the underground 3. (to Nyugati Pályaudvar) It's in the central, not so far from the river, Parliament and other beautiful things in Budapest. If you will have time on the evening you can walk on that street where the hostel is and have a nice dinner or drink.
I hope I could help.

Re: Budapest Népliget Bus Terminal - last minute lodging ideas nearby

Thanks to everyone. Although I am having some issues with getting my money back, I now have a firm booking and am pleased.

Hi XXXXXX!

It is okay we book the room for you and I can suggest you to take a free walking tour, that exactly starts at 10:30 and lasts 2-2,5 hours, but we will explain you everything when you arrive

Cheers!

Re: Budapest Népliget Bus Terminal - last minute lodging ideas nearby

I am glad to hear it seems to be working out (and "The Hostel Where Art And Beer Found Harmony" could surely go down in advertising history as the best slogan ever). That's a decent location to get you to Keleti the next morning and still see something of Budapest--the city park, the Donau, Andrassy promenade, and the cathedral are all not too far away. Also, incidentally, you are within striking distance of one of my favorite Budapest restos.

Good luck getting your funds back from the first place you booked. Don't back down and if they're not receptive right away!

I plan to grab the Jerusalem mix in that bar prior to leaving as well as visiting the Holocaust Museum.

Hostel is charming, 6K HUF for a large single room, host is a pleasant and friendly young lady who speaks very fluent EN.

I will return but with a longer duration of stay.

Again, many thanks to everyone on this thread.

Sounds good - HUF 6,000 is really very cheap.

HUF 9000 with breakfast, internet and a late check out. The weather today appears to be more promising and I have just visited the island under Margaret Bridge, which is one tram stop away from this place.

Köszönjük szépen !
