Re: Is 50k enough for me to live on (in the UK)

I remember looking for work in the UK when I was in love with a Londoner (oh my gawd I was a dumb boy) and found that in order to maintain my comfortable standard of living, and due to the exchange rate, I was really going to have to sell myself (and I don't mean at Piccadilly Circus ...although, maybe... nah.)

Honestly it just seems odd that the Pound could be nearly 2:1 against the Dollar, and yet prices seem to translate at a ratio of 1:1. Of course that was 3 years ago so it's a bit different now... but still...
What has the exchange rate got to do with anything? If you live and work in London then you'd earn in Pounds and spend in pounds

You can.

But can you buy those mountains and clean air? I don't think so ouchboy...I really don't think so....
I think you're confusing the UK with London.
Have you visited the Lake District, Peak District, Central or Northern Scotlan, or Wales or the West County? 50K in those places you'd also experience lovely countryside, scenery and clean air! On a visit to a presentation in Ambleside I learned that the word picturesque was actually coined to describe the Lake District.

I want a lake with an alps backdrop man. If you can't give me that, then there is no point in discussing this further.

I don't want some hills...I want mountains!

Dude I thought you were Scottish! There are mountains a plenty with lots of pretty lochs in front of them if you venture North of Glasgow

Why doesn't she just get a job herself rather than moaning that she's only allowed one haircut a quarter?

Honestly, the kids are hardly little.

As Odile said, "Trossachs". Fair enough, but give me the open sea over lakes any day (Britain has both). Each to their own I suppose.
Tell us what else you require to allow us to reply to your thread, narrow it down a bit, gnomes, chocolate, ski slopes?

Sarcasm doesn't work on the internet, which is why I've never used it.

I like the Salloways

Honestly speaking some families earn at least double this here and still cannot afford living a good life
