Re: Just found my first grey hair

When I was about 35, I started to see grey hair - almost wrecked the car one day looking at it in the rear view mirror. Nasty buggers. Started to dye it for the next 20 years.

Earlier this year, I lost all my hair due to chemo, and now it's coming back - grey!!! Well, I knew it would, of course, since I've been dying it. Not sure what I think of it, except that it's curly too, which is new and sort of cool. But I might be dying it again for all I know once it gets long enough. But ok, now i know i have grey hair. La-de-dah.

Other annoying grey hairs - eyebrows. Grey eyebrows grow in wild and look bizarre. Also, my eyelashes have grown in very pale, but longer, and again, curlier. Easy to darken both though.

And then there's the occasional grey nose hair.... but grey chin hair aren't too bad. And fortunately, I haven't any ear hair.

That's all the further I'm going.....

Re: Just found my first grey hair

Grey hair is not as much a concern as a receding hairline and hair loss. Wait till you'll have to deal with those worries among many others such as proliferating wrinkles and liver spots. They also come sooner than you expect.

I know it does kind of seem silly but still - turning 30 last year, first grey hair now, first signs of crow's feet... all point to I'm not as young as I used to be. And it's kind of a shock.
sounds attractive...lol :P What are crow's feet any way? Too scared to goooooooooogle...

Nothing nasty to google :P

It's the expression wrinkles on the side of the eyes.

(In my mother tongue they are called "chicken feet". I find "crow feet" way more... hmmm... dignified)

Re: Just found my first grey hair

I saw my first (and luckily only) grey a few years ago when I was in my 20s. Decided to do a bunch of lifestyle changes to reduce my stress. The thinning hair has been fairly standard for the last decade though, I'm hoping it will hold out long enough to grow a bad teenage mustache (any day now!)

Good lord, I am silly. Thanks for putting things into perspective. There are worse things that can happen to your hair than going grey. Glad to hear it's growing back though!

LOL, they're the wrinkles that form at the outside edge of your eyes when you smile a lot. They're called crows feet because that's what they look like. It's okay to google it.

Re: Just found my first grey hair

All is not doom and gloom, look at the positive side of things. Soon you can retire and get to enjoy your pension or get to live in an old home with like minded people from same age group or get 1 hot meal a day from some charity shop and would not need to be part of the rat race.

Also get discounted haircuts at the hairdressers, if any hair left also save money on hair colours and expensive hair treatments. People would offer you seats when travelling on the public transport on discounted fares. You wouldnt have to walk all the way to the departure terminals ar the airport, airline staff would drive or push you there in buggys.

When going at weekends, there wont be any desperate young men hitting on you, leaving you alone to enjoy being yourself, also no oggling at in the parks or any other public places.

Sooner your sex drive would be gone too, so you would'nt have to fake headaches or make up excuses if you have a partner, otherwise imagine all the savings you would make on batteries.

Aye, right with the 'old' bit there. My first non-head grey hair was smack in the middle of my chest nest...It's a wake up call.
Nothing that a good waxing won't sort out.

I didn't mean to imply that worrying about grey hair is silly. It is traumatic - that's why I dyed mine for 20 years, after nearly wrecking my car while looking at the grey accumulating in the part down the center of my head.

I had to mention hair loss tho, because otherwise it was hard to describe how i knew the real color of my hair. Other than shaving my head of my own volition, this is really the only way I get to start all over again...... but i guess green is out of the question. I don't think I have the blond thing going for me either....oh well.

I like grey hairs (on the head of course) and crows feet. They give people character.

Re: Just found my first grey hair

I used to dislike chicks who wouldn't maintain their hair color, decent cut, etc. I thought they wanted to be invisible, donw played, purposely unattractive...as it seemed, so men could really stand out here. Men wouldn't really turn after them, busy watching their own reflections in the shop windows.

Now I like to look at gracefully aging ladies here, without having to put that crazy chemical stuff on their sculp. Cuts could be better, but some of the graying manes I saw here are hot.

Re: Just found my first grey hair

I think mine's going sort of salt and peppery ish. I haven't really looked at it recently, wash it, let it dry, brush it and up in a pony tail.

Repeat every few days.

I'll have a look tomorrow..

No salt and pepper for me. My hair turned completely silver when I was quite young, just like my Dad.

Salt and pepper here- and I'm very proud of it.

Wait until you fight a lump, or a mole that isn't quite right... One grey hair - so what?

Re: Just found my first grey hair

I am getting quite a few grey hairs now, which wouldn't be too bad but they are like fishing line!
I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that my partner goes bald before I go completely white. Sounds mean, but I don't want to be taken for an eldery relative. But as he is younger than I am, I better not hold my breath.

Sounds like me!

I take after my great-grandmother in many ways, it happens that my early grey is one of those ways. I've been having highlights or full dye (or both) since my late teens / early 20s.

Now, I'm old enough that I feel it would be okay to go ahead and let it go natural, I'd like to give my hair a break for a bit from the chemicals and see what the texture is really like BUT with a hubby younger than I (and with a "baby face" too) I am continuing with the color for now.

Maybe next winter I'll let it grow enough so that it won't be sooo short if I cut it down past the colored bits, we'll see.
