I love Thailand

Amazing fresh from the sea food that's cheap as chips and spicy as hell
Beautiful beaches
Great diving
The climate
The low cost of everything
An hour massage for under 8chf - you get around 4 minutes for that in CH!
The friendliness of the people
Flew direct with Thai for 800chf Zurich -Banghok
Great quality tailored, made to measure suits and shirts for a 3rd of what you'd pay here.

Re: Thailand: what's the attraction?

Thailand is everything and anything you want it to be...
Ive had some great times there, even went to one of the full moon parties about 15 years ago, where I managed to bump into just about everyone I had met travelling in South east asia over the previous 3 months.
All that aside, the people are so warm, friendly and have a great sense of humour
Food is my favourite food of all time
You can get a jungle hut next to a quiet beach for next to nothing where you can just relax
Snickers milkshake
I could go on and on

Thailand is great for kids. My niece who is now 6 has been there a couple of times, I think she was 2-3 the first time, coming with us this year too. No problems whatsoever - even when she had fever once, medical help was easily available. she always loves it there. And we've always eaten everything and from everywhere, also never a problem. Go, you'll love it.
I think I'm sold on it! Can't believe I've never checked it more before this. Thanks to everyone who posted here, and especially about taking kids.

Re: Thailand: what's the attraction?

This question is entirely hypothetical, as I'll never be able to afford to go there, but I'm just curious: why is Thailand so popular as a holiday destination?
The majority of people don't select holidays because of smiles and prostitutes. My guess is more people choose Thailand because of it's great golf courses and beaches than its cheap sex.

Most tourists choose destinations because of weather, availability and price.

If you live in Europe, Thailand is primarily a winter destination. If you want guaranteed winter sun on a beach, you have to think long haul. Asia or the Caribbean. Shorthaul is a risky bet. You might get lucky in the Med. or the Canaries. You might not.

Now look at availability and price. With Thailand you're spoilt for choice. And competition plus the fact they pay resort workers peanuts mean it's cheap.

Great beaches, guaranteed winter sun, great golf, value for money - these are some reasons why Thailand is popular as a holiday destination. Please leave a generous tip for your chamber maid.
