How is a bear neutral? You prob picked the bear for the exact same reasons someone else picked a famous person.

Some put up, sometimes, a pic of their real selves on their Profile Pic though.

That’s a little bit too harsh.
I’m thinking of Andy Warhol’s Marilyn prints. The images of celebrities can and have become works of art. They are public images and as such cannot be stolen.

If I use a picture of... say Matt Damon... then some people might think I am Matt Damon. Maybe I actually believe I'm Matt Damon and that's why I chose it.

But I'm definately not a bear...

Probably people identify with some of the characters they're putting up.

I've had a time I've put up Dido a lot because I very much like her songs.

Sometimes it was Tamzin Outwaithe because she is such a cheeky person and I like to watch her as an actress in her different roles.

Then sometimes it was Romy Schneider, I'm extremely touched by her rather tragic life.

Others I admire are people I know personally but it wouldn't occur to me to use their pics as my avatar.

TBH, you hotter avatars were much cooler.

Well...there goes my reason for joining the EF.

If you keep posting like this people will think you're simple and not much else. When you start coming off as weird on an Internet forum, you know you've strayed too far from the pack. And in case you were wondering (and it seems you actually were) I am not Dustin Hoffman's character in a 40 year old film. Or even Dustin Hoffman himself. While its of course possible that Dustin Hoffman sits in his Hollywood mansion maintaining a 5+ daily posting average on the English Forum in Switzerland, I can tell you it just isn't so.

I can also reliably inform you that the "economisto" EF member isn't trying to "be" like either "The Graduate" or like Dustin Hoffman.

I would agree that you're unlikely to actually be a bear, but somewhat more likely, according to your posting style, to be a monkey left alone with a typewriter.

I admire a few people - some real and some just movie characters - but I would never think of using their picture as my avatar. That's why I asked why people chose them.
