One of our daughters has bought us a short trip to Marrakesh (for our 40th wedding anniversary) with accom for 3 nights. We've got flights for 9 days, so looking for any advice on a great and good value place to spend the other nights there. Thanks.

We hired a car and driver/guide from Marrakesh, which cost surprisingly little.
I thought the leather tanneries in Fes well worth seeing, if you can stand the smell. The way they treat the poor donkeys made me wince, but dh wouldn't let me take them all home
Meknes too was worth a visit and we bought a carpet (surprise, surprise!)
The one place I personally would avoid like the plague is Ouarzazat where all there is to do is soak up the sun............but if that's what you want
You'll certainly get pestered to buy stuff and it's all a game of bluff and double bluff, but then I'm sure you know that already.
We stayed in Marrakesh almost on the main square at the private house of a lovely pair of Parisian queens.
English tea every afternoon with silver teapot, scones and home-made jam.
I'd go back tomorrow but, £/$ blah! blah! blah!

Can't remember the name, Odile, but it was right on the Djamaa El Fna and I could take you right there. All you have to do is buy me a ticket.

Ahah - tell you what. If the £ doesn't reach parity with the CHF by the end of the year- we'll go back on jollies together and leave the old boys back home.

I am not of much help but am also going to Marrakech for a long weekend in Sept. Can anybody recommend any day trips.... Either to the beach or the mountains, which is closer, easier, better, doable in a day, etc?

We got back last night and would be happy to share info gathered during our stay. The small Ryad we stayed in was great, only 6 rooms, with several terrasses, just minutes from the main Square. Only E43 per night- and 4.5 score with trip advisor- Google Ryad Chalymar- ask for either of the 2 rooms on 2nd floor, Nina or Chalymar- this would be great for 2 couples travelling together actually, as you would have the whole floor to share with open terrasse. Really had a genuine feel- with old tiled floors and timbers, and yet with decent but simple bathrooms and (thank goodness) air con as it was betw. 44C and 49C during our stay. If we ever did go again, I'd go late March when everything is still green and temps in the high 20s.
