Guys, good luck to you both and no offense, but writing in chinese is kind of not cool on an english forum.
The point is that this forum is for english speakers and information should be available to everyone.

Copy that. Thought it was okay to post in another language publicly but only so long as the English translation was also included for the benefit of other EF users.

You are right. Thanks for the addition.
A translation also serves the same point.
Making the information available to everyone.

Ack! Good point! Sorry!! Didn't even think about that when I replied to the OP.

Translation: Hello. How long have you been learning Chinese? I learned Chinese when I was young, but don't get to practice speaking. My parents speak Taiwanese. I am from the US also. I'm from California. If you want to practice speaking Chinese, please PM me. Thank you.

I simply said I'm looking for a Chinese conversation partner. I'm an American who lives in the Zug area who wants to speak Mandarin Chinese with someone. I do not want to speak to native Cantonese speakers (as they tend to have very strong accents when speaking Mandarin).

That's about it.

I hate to tell you this, but you've misspelled "chicken noodle soup" in the second sentence.

Yeah, there is no spelling in Chinese, as they don't have a phonetic/alphabetic system.

I thought you uncovered our evil plot to destroy the English forum of Switzerland and turn it into a Chinese forum directed by communists.

Everyone didn't need the information, if you can't read it, then it obviously was not for you.
The point of this forum is regardless of your background/mother tongue, English is the common platform for everyone to communicate on this forum. Its simply rude to post in another language.

Hows this for conversation today:

这种自大的态度, 祝你好运! (good luck with this attitude of yours!)

Write as much Chinese as you like, but a full English translation must be provided. Thanks.

Re: Looking for Chinese (Mandarin) Conversation Partner

Good luck! I spent 6 months in Beijing learning Mandarin. Although they are more difficult to write, I think the traditional characters you're both using look much nicer. And as most people don't actually write characters so much any more (like you, they're using pinyin or bopomofo) then the disadvantage is minimised.

Thanks. I'm more focused on speaking. I wrote that in traditional, because it seems everyone can read them, even if Mainlanders can't write them anymore. I wanted to reach as many people as possible.

I studied for 6 months in Shanghai, but I wish I went to Beijing, trying to learn Mandarin there, is like trying to learn High German in Switzerland. Locals speaking strong dialects does not help.

Re: Looking for Chinese (Mandarin) Conversation Partner

Just out of interest, is there an equivalent of EF for Chinese speakers in Switzerland?

I'm learning Chinese too, but have only done about 20 hours of lessons so far, so I am not really up to the standard suggested by the OP's post.
