Re: Come to Moscow and find a job in a week's time

Given all the crackerjack programmers in Russia, the question is how long would one last in that (quickly found) job...

Having seen here over years piles of those posts from people painfully looking for a job in Switzerland for many months and years (somebody on these pages even told me 2-3 years is normal) I thought I'll drop it here. Why don't you come to Russia? In St. Petersburg and especially in Moscow you can find an IT job in a week. A person with a European background will have a strong bargaining position. Is it really worth it spilling all of your blood while hunting for a Swiss job?
Is Anna Chapman recruiting on the EF now?

Re: Come to Moscow and find a job in a week's time

Believe me, some things (mainly housing and food) are more expensive in Moscow than in Zurich.
The truth is that an expat can get a very good position there. z.B., a friend of mine (originally Russian) received a canadian citizenship only for IT-working in Moscow like a foreign specialist.

are you serious? I would love to work in Russia. Where do I apply?
Many online boards are available, you can throw in a CV and wait for the fish to come. Could even state that you don't wish to hear from recruiters and you will be just fine without their "services".

As far as I know, the only subject where Russia is better than Switzerland is about the Girls, but that could never justify willing to go there ...

Re: Come to Moscow and find a job in a week's time

"Bees on a plane panic as two hives swarm business class cabin

Terrified airline passengers panicked when two hives of bees smuggled onto a plane for a flight across Russia escaped in mid-air and began swarming around the cabin."

From today's Telegraph ....

So.....the question was....."Why would people live in Switzerland rather than Russia?"

Who knows?

Anyway.....for more Eastern Bloc giggles....

And in these 5 words, all of Moscow is summarised (just use a slimeball Russian accent and giggle menacingly afterwards). Moscow is the second worst place I've been to after Riyadh. It's an unmitigated hole. I have a large circle of Russian friends in London and they'll work anywhere except Moscow.

Re: Come to Moscow and find a job in a week's time

I have to disagree with some previous posts... Russian is a beautiful language (I can't say the same about German, I'm afraid) and shouldn't be that more difficult to learn. I have been told previously, though, that Portuguese sounds like a drunken Russian mouse, so that might be helping... I wanted to learn it when I was teenie, but being on the other edge of the continent didn't help .

If professionally wasn't a dead end for me, I'd have invaded Moscow a long time ago. I do have to agree, though, that safety and corruption are two major points on the pro/against choice of Russia as a professional field.

(but the sound of Russian is just awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwesome)

My employers (not based in Moscow) have been keen for me to relocate there for three years rather than live here and travel there.....they were happy when I married a Moscow girl as they thought it was more likely I'd live there.

How little they know of the Moscovite desire to leave - having a Russian wife made moving there even LESS likely!

Move to Odessa and commute. Odessa's a blast.

My vodka swiggin' skills aren't up to par yet

I foresee lots of opportunities but I wouldn't go there at this moment. I'm dead serious when I say that when (yes, WHEN) WWIII breaks out, Russia will definitely not be my friend.

100% agree - its fantastic there.....great weather, French style boulevards, more friendly people, better food.

Wouldn't fancy the currency though!

But still...if I absolutely had to work in Moscow, I'd live there and commute for the working week and back at weekends. It's not that bad of a commute.
