travel shop in or around Zurich?

Hi there,

Does anyone know of a place in and around Zurich city where I can get the following travel-related things? I've already been to a few sports shops/stores and haven't found them yet. I'd rather not have to order from overseas.

- universal sink plug
-inflight socks
-small waterproof bags so I can take money and valuables with me (even camera) when I'm swimming
- ear plugs
- clothing (long sleeves and long trousers) appropriate for a hot and humid environment (The stuff I find in clothes stores seem to be too thick for this scenario).

Thanks for the help.

I know that Coop City has a section (near where its luggage is sold) for travel-related items like these...

But as for a universal sink adaptor, you might want to try a home-improvement store like Jumbo, OBI or Coop Bau & Hobby.

Of course it's helpful. Travellers go through the airport. Therefore, the airport has shops that sell items for travellers.

I'd have thought that would have been bally obvious.

(And yes: I've seen the items you mention in your list at the airport)

Re: travel shop in or around Zurich?

Oh DB, dear sir, we are not very happy this evening are we? I could do with a re-phrase on that last post of yours.

Most of the larger local sports' shops I know carry light hiking trousers and sports shirts. Maybe try Compass if these fail. As you don't say where you have tried, it is a waste of time us listing the places we know with links and the like.

And gadgets - airport, veloplus, backpacker type places.
Google will probably find them faster than I can.

PS - I have a universal sink plug used for a handbasin in this house which isn't supposed to be have a plug (flat drainage hole) but I honestly have no idea where I bought it. It is much flatter underneath than a normal one as it lies in the basin instead of fitting into a hole.

well then let me rephrase it. It is not helpful because it is obvious. And I'm an OCD non-last-minuter (to make up a word) so I want to buy the stuff well before leaving, not when I'm at the airport. However, if you could tell me where about in the airport you saw the stuff, I can go there a few days before and check the store out. THAT would be helpful, thank you very much. I'll remove ass from your comment and just keep smart!

Tchibo stores www.tchibo.ch as well as certain post offices hold a limited assortment of travel items.

You will find everything you need in Transa on Josefstrasse - transa.ch

Mind you, you probably won't be able to afford to go on your travels after the shopping trip

Most large department stores have racks of such in their luggage sections.

Re: travel shop in or around Zurich?

Why not try the TCS shop? - they seem to have many items that fall into your list. If you cannot find a universal plug, you can always find a circular rubber disc (or cut one yourself) that can fit over most plug holes.

Thanks everyone for the tips. And yes, DB sounds a bit cranky in this post...but hey, doesn't he always!
