Thought about that... maybe it'll fix the problem, but I also thought that it might actually make it worse because I'd be talking to a pet, which would turn me into a weird and creepy person, if I'm not already.
Wow bad luck to those of you who talk to your pets. You now know you are weird and creepy, so stop talking!

Talking to a dog or cat is actually really soothing. I always talked to my dog when I was a kid. It's also cool how they look like they are listening when they cock their head on one side. Plus they don't argue...

It's when you start arguing with yourself though that you should really start to worry......
Yes!

And when you start losing arguments, and sulking.. and giving yourself the silent treatment.. thats when it gets serious(!)

Its the voices inside your head that you could worry about.. those outside are explainable..

I sing to myself... VERY loudly.. but then...

sanity is relative.

My old teacher said that the first sign of madness was talking to yourself, and the second sign is hair growing on the palm of your hands.

So check your hands!

And the second sign is checking!

but I've been living on my own for the last 5 months and I've noticed that I'm talking and thinking loudly... What worries me is that I'm answering my own questions.
You're still fresh at 5 months, wait till you are here alone for 6 years, you will be serving drinks for imaginary personas and having all sort of discussions with them.

On the bright side, it's not only you having this problem, i have many friends including Swiss and my ex who are all doing this all the time and in public places too

Re: Talking to myself loudly

Rent/Download "Castaway" with Tom Hanks. If you're not ~~there~~ yet, then you're still ok.

I was actually out walking my dogs talking to myself this past weekend... except I wasn't talking to myself... I was arguing with myself.

What I was doing is something called "mental rehearsing". You may be doing this whether you know it or not. Íf you're upset about something, that has happened or you anticipate it to happen, e.g. something at work or in a relationship, then you prepare for it in your mind by having the conversation in your head.

e.g.

"Here, Keiny, have a chocolate chip cookie".
--in real life, I eat the chocolate chip cookie and say thank you, then I hate myself for it--
"OH no, thanks, Brenda, I'm on a diet. I couldn't possibly eat that chocolate chip cookie. it will go straight to my ass and then I won't be able to wear my skinny jeans for my date with Brad on Friday."
--so I just mentally rehearsed what I SHOULD have done so that the next time Brenda (that diet-sabatoging wench) offers me a chocolate chip cookie I will be better prepared to resist her attempts.

But this past weekend I was out on the street mentally rehearsing (out loud) an arguement that I would loved to have had with my boss who really pissed me off on Friday. I hadn't realised that I was doing this out loud until I made a rather verbal outburst that probably resembled a fit of Turret's, and a guy across the street turned to give me one of those typical Swiss looks of disapproval.

So... just know that, talking to yourself is not only normal, but also healthy.

Unless you look like this:

Wow, @KeinFranzösisch !!, I got a shock after reading these lines because I recently had a break up and I've been anticipating this for the last month, but I didn't really see any relation between the breakup and the fact that I'm talking to myself... Are you psychologist ?

I talk loudly as though there was someone listening. I no longer think quietly to myself.
...
I'm wondering if that's normal or I'm going crazy.
...

Don't worry - it's all perfectly normal, and I do exactly the same thing.

Of course, at the time, I think I'm having a conversation with the missus

And then you get people saying:

"... who are you talking to?!...."

i get that a lot

Sing, that way nobody thinks your nuts

That's what I do, but since I'm also Italian, I've been told that I'm also very expressive.... so everybody still thinks I'm nuts
