Dear all - the thread isn't locked, but quite a few years old. Has anyone had any experience with putting a freezer on their balcony since? OP? Would appreciate anyone's thoughts.
Thanks a lot,
Katerina

Sorry, I don't mean as in "is it permitted?" but rather if anyone has had experience with the cold/hot weather and technical problems (lots of talk about compressors breaking)... we have an open uncovered balcony, and have a plastic cabinet of sorts (imagine something that would hold two green rolly trash bins) that we could insulate.
Thanks,
Katerina

I and some of my neighbors have done so for decades, no problems.

| | Re: Can I put my freezer on balcony? | Quote: | | | | | Just bought a freezer and realised it is a bit too big to be put inside apartment. Has anyone ever put their fridge or freezer on balcony? I am just wondering if the electronics behind will get spoilt due to moisture or coldness? Thanks for any tips. | | | | | Who in his right mind buys something as cumbersome as a fridge and realizes that is too big?
And what is this deal of putting fridges on balconies anyway? Its really weird witnessing this collective behavior. Like don't you have less than a square meter space in your apartment to put a fridge? Even a second fridge, what are you going to store there? Extra bananas?
Is this a genuine Swiss thing or just immigration stupidity?

Most people who do so, myself included, are Swiss.

I just cannot imagine how safe it would be to put an electrical appliance on a balcony which is subjected to the elements, rain, esp wind driven rain, snow, etc. Whatever you do, don't leave your awning on to protect it - or it will end in tears.

Tom | | | | | I’ve seen them around here too (Winterthur), but usually people have balconies with a roof and both the appliance and electrical outlet are in a protected space.

He made us think for a sec whether to put bananas in the fridge or not.
I guess necroposting happens, it's more the tone of replies that may make members think twice before buying something from the resurrector. |

Likewise for other fruits and vegs.

Tom | | | | | No surprise. Everything tastes better in ambient temperature. Bananas ripen faster in the fridge, no? I never put them there.
How about eggs?

How about eggs? | | | | | I don’t believe eggs ripen! But always out. I think it’s only in the US that recommends refrigeration - their chickens are not vaccinated against salmonella.
