| | Advice needed on DSRL camera
I see a lot of beautiful picture taken by members so I am sure there is quite a few knowledge on this forum concerning DSRL camera's.
I sold my DSRL camera about 10 months ago and got a Sony Nex 3 with 18-55mm lens, just because it was more compact and easy to take with me.
Now living in this beautiful country I really miss my DSRL.
I am going to the US next week and now I have a dilemma. Either try to sell my Sony Nex 3 and get a DSRL (Canon or Nikon) camera with 18-200 mm lens at around $700 ,- (bestBuy) or buy the SOny Nex 18-200mm lens for $799,- and keep my Sony Nex.
What would you do? What is the chance of selling my Sony Nex?
Thank you

Hi
Your Sony NEX offers portability, which the dslr will not. It depends how important the portability is to you.
Sony are just about to release A65 and A77, so worth a look at those.
Just remember with DSLRs its easy to fall into lens lust, so prepare to invest significant dollars to chase the elusive lens.

Well Astrid, I can only say you need to deeply look into your personal needs, preferences and artistic desires...and take your time.
I have a Canon 5D MII, 7D, 'bout ten lenses, five camera bags from big to small, tripods, monopods, filters 'n gadgets. A super light Vaio notebook, G9 and a 8MP Smatrphone that is stellar.
Do I use it all? Yes I do, of course rarely all at the same time. Depends on what I set out to do in earnest or just banging about, but I acquired the pile over time in terms of what I found I was missing or something I wanted to facilitate doing.
Of course I have also checked out anything new that comes up to see if might fulfill something I wanted to do, or just out of curiosity, including the NEX 3, which cute as it might be, just didn't fit me or my hands.
For starters, what I would suggest is to spend a disproportionate amount of time on the following two forums and see what makes your heart pump. http://www.fredmiranda.com/ http://photography-on-the.net/forum/ |

Thanks! For now I am leaning towards getting the bigger lens for my Sony Nex. I really like the camera but just missing the up to 200mm lens. It will be a bargain compared to buying it in my home country (E 800) or here (CHF 1220).

There you go, my sister in NC has a camera and two lenses and has some of her images hanging in galleries. Never mind the money, whatever you buy has to suit you to the ground or it is just a waste of time and money.
Your price looks right on. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search...tialSearch=yes |

...you might want to note that that is a pretty slow lens, f/3.5-6.3, so you may find yourself struggling in low light...

I know there is a 55-210 mm lens coming for the Nex as well http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/sto...52921666375299
But it won't be out till mid october and I won't be in the Netherlands or in the US then...And then I will have the problem of having to change lenses and carry 2 lenses around. That was one of my big complainst with my Sony DSRL, changing of the lenses, usually my target (mostly 1 of my 4 kids) would move/run/hide and I was too late...

nah, don't think you want that 55-210, less range and just as slow. Mind you, one-size-fits-all always has limitations, but the 18-200 will likely do most of what you want. You might want to add an external flash for fill light and low light to catch quick kids.

Yep, that one is designed for the camera, and while others might work, maybe even better, they might make the whole rig awkward to hold and shoot with.
