Anyone up for Skydiving ?

Hi everyone,

I can't seem to convince anyone to join me to jump off a plane... I don't see the big deal. The worst thing that could happen is that the parachute didn't open and you'd end up smashing against the ground, but it'll definitely be quite fun.

I'll be going on the 8th of October to Interlaken:

I'm looking for people who want to join me in this thrilling feat :-P

Fran

Oh I love skydiving!!! The miss the thrill of the free falls. Unfortunately, I am busy on 08 October but please please please do keep me in mind the next time you go skydiving. I have my HD Video CAm and I like to keep a diary of my jumps.

Re: Anyone up for Skydiving ?

Tandem? Never tried it.

Do you want to experience something really, really crazy?

Jump your first time solo!

For around 300 EUR at Chambery airport they will give you 1 day training of what to do if your chute is jammed, doesn't open etc, how to control it and how to land. Next day you go at 4000m, free fall for 50 seconds at 200 km/h and open at 1500m and fly towards the zone for about 5 minutes.

Instructors follow you during the jump and help you with holding good position for opening the chute. After you open the chute, you are on your own.

This is the first lesson of Accelerated Free fall (or progressive free fall). 6 more like this and you can a license, given that you will pass all the different tasks during the next jumps. Or if you want to do only one that's OK too.

And the will take a video of it!

Here's mine:

THIS IS NOTHING LIKE A TANDEM. Once you open your parachute, the instructors don't have a chance of helping you if you have any kind of trouble. You have to do everything by yourself. After the parachute is open you still have to land by yourself, which is the most dangerous part according to instructors.

I did this 3 weeks ago and now thinking of doing the full training in spring. If you are scared of heights just like me than this kind of stunt will keep your adrenalin levels up for at least a week...

Tandem on the other hand takes only 15 minutes to learn how to hold position and off you go...The person behind you is doing everything you need to know.

Re: Anyone up for Skydiving ?

I would love to, but don't have the cash... I looked into this when I was in Switzerland 2 years ago, also at Interlaken. The guy that replied to my emails wasn't impressed that I tried to talk him down in price haha.

I did my first jump (tandem) in Australia, on the beach south of Sydney, January this year. It only cost $280. If I wanted to do the training & solo jump it would have cost $400- hence the reason I tried to talk the guy down :-P

It is the best! SO much fun! Be sure to ask them to have a turn at controlling the chute once it's out...

Wow !!, that's quite impressive and also really scary... but definitely it's something I'll be looking to after this jump... I'm basically looking for longer freefall. I did bungee jump in Verzasca Dam, but the freefall is only 7 seconds and after that I need to feel this longer, much longer.

Nice video by the way

Re: Anyone up for Skydiving ?

jochenschweizer offers tandem for 270 Euro / 330 CHF, 50 CHF cheaper

in Solothun

I did it last year with the same voucher and same company, I was so scared that I didn't realize much until it was over

So I decided to it a second time, but this time in Africa after a safari tour in Namibia... Without shoes and helmet, my instructor said it's not necessary... but I'm still alive

Skydiving is the most fun you can have with clothes on so go for it!!

I am slightly afraid of heights, which is why I prefer mountaineering... still having the illusion of firm ground under my feet

By the way, what's the deal with people putting loud rock music over these kinds of videos? Quiet and serene is not possible?

Also, what's a good (long running) digital camera for on a helmet to make films while doing something like this?

I've seen slow and quiet music on this kind of videos too. As for the camera, I have seen the GoPro Hero a lot in jumps, biking, stunts...
