Charging for a bank account [France]

Hi
sorry if this post is already on but we are looking to open a French bank account and went to open one in Ferney Voltaire. It appears it will cost us around 80 Euros to open a joint account with 2 cards - is this normal ?

Thanks
Jane

Not sure I can remember 100%, but I'm pretty sure we didn't have to pay any opening fees. Then again, we were arranging mortgage and current accounts, together with several other accounts they insisted we had (apparently you must have a savings AC per person if you have a mortgage) so it's entirely possible that we missed it.

Cartes Bleues, on the other hand, are not normally charged for. Credit cards would be, I think, but we never bothered.

Re: Charging for a bank account

Most banks in CH seems to have a bank charge also - at least the ones I checked (between 7 - 10 CHF)

I would assume the French would do the same..

Re: Charging for a bank account

Its for a joint current account, 2 cards but just debit (visa). And they are saying we need to take out a policy with them which means that any products we take out will be at 50% cost, but the charge will be around €5 per month? Our french isn't that great so we got a bit confused.
thanks
