Re: Word of Today

Heard of mutton dressed as lamb and would hate to be guilty of it. If push came to shove I'd rather teeter towards the edge of lamb than mutton.

My personal interpretation without knowing the context could either be: your passed it? Or they could do you? (sexually)

Eek. How can somebody hurt poor little mutton..

It's apparently some old tradition, sacrificing a lamb, gotta look into it.

I like our words.

Hahahah, those are so cute. Lamb is definitely another word of today.
Curry is great. Just can't make myself think of these furry darlings when eating it.

Abstraction. I am digging into abstraction process deviations, it is interesting. I should probably plop this into the Linguistics thread, but it actually concerns more conceptualization, philosophy, ethics and anthropology, than just semantics or cognitive linguistics.

Abstraction, the Word of Today. As a cognitive process.

The little rumbling was just me thinking about how I got there.

Abstemious. Sounds ugly, but actually is not, when applied with care and thought. In a selfless kind of way.

What do you mean? Is it some 1st world Smile therapy bull? I think it is good to be genuine. Although I almost always start laughing when I am angry.

(you can always offload here, makes for an interesting read, especially when one is procrastinating with some school work...)

Cardio. Not a very nice word, but it feels good.
Fasting. This does not feel good, but is a good word.
Flee market. A weird version of yard sale, not sure why the reference to insect, wonder if anyone would have an etymological motivation for that.

Re: Word of Today

Tis a translation of "marché aux puces".
2nd hand goods were often infested with parasites.
Derived from the original "flea market" in Paris at "la porte de Clignancourt" in the 1860s (source: wikipedia).

Clignancourt is worth a visit !!!!!

That's what I thought, I was just hoping for something exciting..like somebody selling insects, jumping beans and stuff.. I like flee markets since one sees stuff with stories behind it.
