How much a woman has responsability over a man's behavior?

So here is my question:

How much a woman has responsability over a man's behavior?

Re: How much a woman has responsability over a man's behavior?

No-one is responsible for anyone's behaviour, other than their own.

But it is our responsibility as parents, to at least give our childrens' future psychiatrist a few interesting things to talk about...

Whilst agreeing with your first statement, I also agree with the implications in your second, ie, I am quite certain that the behaviour of parents does have an impact on the shaping of children/adults (to a lesser or greater degree).

Re: How much a woman has responsability over a man's behavior?

Very powerful statements. But they are blanket statements.

Regardless if you are "a man" and "grown up", one cannot disregard the infinite subconcious decisions and choices made daily, many most likely influenced at some point by a female.

An impact, yes. Of course. But to be still "blaming" your parents for your own irrational behaviour at 48 is a little more below the belt, than even UTH's statement.

Some of the worlds leading thinkers may or may not have become that way, had they not had crazy mothers.
Then of course we get into the discussion of nature verses nurture.

Oprah Winfrey didn't have the easiest of childhood, and hasn't done too badly with her life- depending on how you measure success of course.
Did she have "bad" parents?

As parents, we are role models. But at some stage there is a limit to where our behaviour influences their behaviour (see tamtrum throwing 2 year old in Migros.... next to the tantrum throwing 45 year old.)

Now, off to shout at the kids to tidy up their migros stickers and bang my fists on the table so that the big one does her homework.*

Absolutely none.

When a boy becomes a man he is in full charge of himself , entirely responsible for his own actions and his own direction. He has no one to blame for his shortcomings. If you hear differently , then someone is making excuses.

If a man is under the influence of a woman, he is a boy or has failed to get sex the normal way.

None whatsoever.

A grown-up (man or woman) is 100% responsible for their own actions, beliefs and patterns of behaviour. Whether they accept this or not is another matter altogether...

Now, if you could only convince several nanny-state governments of that, the world would be a far better place.

Agreed. Can't see it happening anytime soon though. More's the pity...

She can strongly influence exactly that proportion of his behaviour which is determined by purely by testosterone.

Responsibility she has for his behaviour? Zero.

The legal recognition of this may be counted as dating back to Magna Carta, which enshrined the rule of habeas corpus.

Re: How much a woman has responsability over a man's behavior?

As much as people might wish it were so for ideological reasons, this issue is not black and white.

The responsibility for our actions is all our own.

But that doesn not mean that others have not influenced and formed our values and attitudes.

If somebody has suffered abuse as a child, and as a result that person has difficulty coping as an adult, aren't you being very harsh to tell them it's all their own fault and they should get a grip?

Likewise, exposure of children to positive role models can later in life help them be less fatalistic and see that they can change things themselves.

Re: How much a woman has responsability over a man's behavior?

Men are by their very nature driven by base, primal urges and are generally not fit for society. They need the calming, rational influences of the gentler sex otherwise there would be unmade beds, water on the bathroom floor and toilet seats permanently in the up position..in other words there would total chaos.

Re: How much a woman has responsability over a man's behavior?

Two different questions I think.....

What the forumer said was "influence" and you ask about "responsibility"...

On responsibility, I totally agree with what everybody else said.....you only have responsibility for yourself and your young children

On INFLUENCE.....I think that women have more influence over men than men do over women. Women have a far greater range of tools at their disposal than men do to ensure we are kept in line

Re: How much a woman has responsability over a man's behavior?

Totally agree with the FishEggsToast there. Responsability Influence

We all get influences from different things in our life, whatever the gender, nature or age. I am influenced by a painful experience as a child, of putting my hand on a hot stove.

It is my responsability, though, and not of the said oven, to take care I don't burn myself again.

My father is as responsible for my bad/good choice in men as the moon. He did influence me on the choice, though, by being the main male figure as I grew up.

I'd say everyone is a hundred percent responsible for their own actions. But to the extent that you have influence or power over others, you are also responsible for their actions too.

It's not 60/40. It's 100/40 - doesn't have to add up to a hundred.

The original quote was in relation to how much influence a woman has during the raising of a male child.

In an ideal world, a (good) parent would have a lot of influence, but in many cases that is not possible - take the countless situations in the world, where there are wellmeaning women who are in abusive relationships, with no way out (alive.) The offspring of such relationships is going to be influenced by seen abuse - not necessarily becoming abusive themselves, but certainly more likely to see disrespect and worse, as being okay. Sad.
