Judging by how much I've seen some places charge for "Toast Hawaii" (a slice of bread with a slice of ham, a slice of pineapple and a slice of cheese heated in the oven until cheese melts), I'd say about 15 - 20chf per sandwich. Not including either fries / chips or salad, that would be another 10 - 15chf.

Re: Cheap food - oh yes!

The real problem would be getting sliced square bread that is actually fresh, for the outside pieces ...

Re: Cheap food - oh yes!

Cheap lunch in Switzerland is certainly possible for not much more. I have St Galernrot bread filled with tomato and cheese each day all purchased in Lidl or Aldi. Cost 2 loafs of fresh bread kept in freezer to main freshness at 2CHF each plus tomatoes 3CHF + Cheese 3CHF = 8CHF per week

Re: Cheap food - oh yes!

Still more expensive than porridge. 50g porridge oats per person = 4p. 1p worth of sugar. 2p worth of butter. Voilà (and healthier).

Or go posh and substitute half of the water with milk.
