Why should the term alpha-female describe a woman who mimics an alpha-male?

It can just as well be the older and wise aunt who is holding the family together and shows qualities like empathy, active listening and good advice.

A matriarch is one kind of alpha-female just like the patriarch is an alpha-male imo. I wouldn't put so much of negativity to the term alpha-female but like to see them as women who are true to themselves.

An ex-GF of mine was Latin American and we went over there to see her folks several times. Her gradma and great-grandma (who was coming up for 100) were the real bosses of the family and even the most macho of the male descendants and in-laws would follow their wishes to the letter. Interestingly they didn't have to say much but just made a few subtle hints and everybody understood what had to be done. But interestingly when dealing with any aspect of the outside world it was the males who pretended to be in command and got loud if necessary and the females shrunk back to almost inivisibility. It was facinating to see how their roles switched in that interaction.

I honestly don't care. I don't think having/not having a penis affects how good of a surgeon or pilot the person in question is. Well, if possible I always prefer female doctors, but just because I'm more comfortable with them, I'm sure men are just as capable.

I tend to prefer women who operate in a male dominated field, as I feel, that they'd have to be so much better that their male counterparts (certainly doesn't have to be the case)...plus I always had a soft-spot for the underdog...hence, my dentist is a woman and my doctor is a woman.
