Let's take a look at Angelina Jolie (you can start panting, guys)

A beautiful woman, a loving mother of 6 children, an international ambassador for whatever organisation, an accomplished actress, an adoring wife who has Brad Pitt as a lover and father of some of her children and to top it off, is very rich.

What's not to like?

There's no such thing as a perfect woman. She seems phony in my eyes.

(OK, guys, you can zip it up now.)
Phony indeed. She is aided by god-knows-how-many nannies, a chef, a private personal trainer, a make up artist, a hairdresser.

Of course she will look fabulous, and give off the impression that she is able to juggle all those balls in the air. I'd like to see her travel without her private jet and lug all those children in tow, or be a fly on the wall in their household.

If you think this is utter nonsense, ask yourself a question:
Do you want your 12 hour long haul flight pilot to be a man or a woman ?
Do you want your child's surgeon to be a man or a woman ?
I usually agree with all your posts, Sky, but I completly disagree with this.

The answer to all those questions is always the same: the best professional, independently of gender. Why would having dangling bits make someone a better surgeon? And what does that have to do with alphas and omegas?

The best combination is not beta female + alpha male. This is only true if you let yourself completly brainwash by hundreds of years of a society that took 1200 years to give women a soul, 1900 to accept women have the right to orgasm, and 1950 to give women right to make decisions.*

In some couples/human relationships yes, that is the best solution. In others it's not. EACH PERSON IS DIFFERENT. Each relationship is different.

I have no problem with female superiors. Or male ones. As long as they are good at what they do. Same goes with teachers, doctors, lawyers, architects, painters, writers, singers, cooks, cleaners, carpenters, etc.

I can't stand alpha males. I also can't stand beta. You know why? Because I can't stand stereotype run people. The virtue lies in the middle. If you let one personality rule over another one for too long, individuality is lost. To me, that is not the key to a healthy relationship of any kind.

Somehow I have the feeling this thread took a turn into another one.

Re: Alpha Females

What Helm said +1.

My husband makes excellent food, and since we've been married I've rewired more plugs than he has. He bows to my superior baking skills, and I admire from afar his ability to take a computer apart and put it back together with some screws left over. There's no such thing as man's work or women's work (giving birth/breastfeeding excepted ) There are just things someone is naturally good at/enjoys/has worked hard to learn.

And then there's housework. Or is that just me.

Swissoconnors... I don't want to be the one bringing the bad news... But breast feeding is available for men too...

P.S..: I'm not talking about male lactation, but about the silicon male boob with the pre-pumped mommys milk. It's creepy

On my short commute to work (2min), I've overheard a conversation between 2 women on the bus. One was yip-yapping about how she's an alpha female and yadayadayadya....and I started to think, why does every woman who proclaims to be an alpha female, keeps on running her mouth about it? To me, strong men and women do not feel the need to announce their greatness to the world...but women, who (most likely through lack of self-esteem and a couple of relationship mishaps) loose their vocal inhibitions tend to spew out raw sewage on a frequent basis. What's your take on (self-proclaimed) alpha females?
Are you serious? That is so lame. If someone is indeed "alpha", they wouldn't be talking about.

Re: Alpha Females

I believe the alpha female thing very often is similar to the short guy syndrome. Because short, uncharismatic guys often don't exude natural authority and therefore have to try much harder.

It's the same with many career/alpha women. Success and authority don’t come easy, this strenuousness in human relations doesn’t naturally attract others.
No matter how successful, intelligent, smartly dressed and good-looking an “alpha female” is, they often lack the natural, effortless charm and attraction which makes someone truly alpha.
What I've also experienced is that these alpha females cannot, or don't want to, snap out of it at the end of the day, they manage their life and relationships just like they manage their businesses, which is a major turnoff for most men.
It really isn't easy to meet successful, ambitious, innovative and intelligent women who manage to stay natural, charming, casual and without the need to show off.
Just my 2 Rappen, feel free to disagree.

Reminds me of the lyrics of That's Life (F. Sinatra)

I'm not sure I read you correctly ? Are you making a difference between the pejorative even comical definition of "alpha females hell bent on climbing through hierarchy" and simple women who work for a living ?

All types are valuable to the good functioning of society.
We need alphas, betas, and teachers too.

To know really who you are (beta type, alpha type etc) and be content with what you have, is perhaps a recipe for satisfaction ?

Is it really stereotyping the initial definition of an alpha female, or has it just become a stereotype (as in coined) ?
The initial determination of alphas, betas and omegas comes from the observations of the Animal Kingdom (ornithology)

Those statements can't both be right. Either she dumped you, or she wasn't a genuine alpha.
