| | Re: Today I'm Thankful for... | Quote: | | | | | Today I am thankful for:
1. Being deadly sick - being bombarded with viruses from vaccines means I will be able to go on a volunteering trip
2. A particularly difficult client - it means I have a job
3. My mom who nags me - it means I have a mom
4. An argument with the OH - it means we stand equal and are not afraid/feel safe to express our (strong) opinions to each other
5. The prospect of beer(s)+bagel(s) at the Viadukt with friends later to forget all the above | | | | | That's awesome, you perceive the cup as half full...despite it being totally empty. Love your positivity!

I am thankful for being alive and healthy.
I am thankful for this day and all the past days in my life, every day has been a learning experience whether it was a day filled with sorrow or a day filled with joy.
I am thankful for all the wonderful people I have met, and also for the people who have made my life harder, teaching me the value of friendships and foes.
I am thankful for having awesome grandparents, their presence was a blessing.
I am thankful for surviving all the hardships in my life.
I am thankful for all the wonderful things that exist in my life... too many to list.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

for the fact I left our house by beautiful sunshine- to go down to the Lake through thick dense fog, have a walk in light cold fog -
and to return just in time up t'mountain to sunshine and a lovely sunset.

I'm thankful for...
My lovely husband who loves me despite having lived with me for 18 years..
My family back in England..
Being given the chance to live in this beautiful country (thank you Peter)..
My good health, touch wood..
All my experiences in the past which made me who I am today (I think that's a good thing)
White wine..
My beautiful cats which are sadly gone but never forgotten..
A roof over my head and plenty to eat..
Life.

i'm thankful that we take this day to actually think about all the good stuff we have and appreciate it- to take the time out of busy lives and sometimes silly things we can get caught up in and take a deep breath and just enjoy moments with those closest to us.
i'm so thankful for my family, near and far away and the love and support they provide, as well as the laughs and hugs they provide.
i am thankful for all the friends i have made here, that gave me a home away from a place i have called home for a long time, as well as the friends i have in new york and the u.s who continued to hold our friendship close and precious even if it isn't always easy over the distance.
i am thankful to have coworkers that are kind and helpful, and most of all funny and funloving.
and most of all, i am thankful for my husband and son who make my life wonderful....
have a wonderful thanksgiving everyone!

In addition to my earlier post of being thankful there was no-one around to witness the after effects of last night's chilli I am now thankful that I remembered that there is still a good half bottle of red left. Woo! EDIT: Having just re-read Amaraya's post - is this thread a Thanksgiving-themed spin off where I should have been thankful for something fluffeh rather than something toilet-related? D'oh..

Alright, now that this Thanksgiving frenzy is over, what is everybody thankful for today? (and please leave out Friday)
I'm still thankful for walking a higher path.

A US friend of mine's Facebook status from yesterday:
Today I'm thankful Native Americans couldn't handle our flus and our booze.

... Roombria, our robotic vacuum cleaner. Once, a friend wanted to see how it worked and it promptly decided to commit suicide by going over the top of the spiral stairs. Luckily it stopped on the second step and did not tumble all the way down. Strangely when I am alone with Roombria, she avoids the top of the stairs but she teases me a bit by accelerating before swerving away.
She was adopted from Aldi for only CHF249.

The whole idea of Thanksgiving is offensive considering what the European settlers eventually ended up doing on the continent. The fact that we celebrate the one moment of peace that was had with the Natives and somehow pat ourselves on the back about it is insulting. So let's get straight to the point, what most people in America are really thankful about is the kind of life they lead now, which wouldn't have happened unless Manifest Destiny wasn't carried out with the kind of efficiency and brutality that it was. Flus and booze are least of what's vile about the holiday, IMO.

Well that is definitely one of the things I consider(I missed the tounge-in-cheekiness of your post).
I just feel that many don't realize that alcohol and substance abuse combined (or caused) with other social problems of Natives is still a very severe issue in many parts of North America, and are not being dealt with as other minorty issues, which have come up in the short NA history, have been.
The poor treatment of Natives in Canada for instance is still one of the country's major issues, and still no good solution has seemed to work.
