Forgotten mainstream movie classics

Some movies fade away and are forgotten for good reason, others never really made it big to begin with but should be remembered.

Two I can think of:

Miami Blues. A young Alec Baldwin playing a psychopath ex-con. Here he briefly decides to go straight. (language NSFW)

Prime Cut. Now, I'm sure any Lee Marvin fan would be happy watching him just eat breakfast for an hour and a half, but watching him play a mobster with class taking down a sleazeball meatpacker is pure movie awesome.

At dinner with a rescued human slave; the grin at 2:20 made me LoL .

Any other overlooked studio gems from 10, 20, 30 years ago?

Re: Forgotten mainstream movie classics

Jon Voight stared in a movie called The All-American Boy which was filmed in my town around 1970. We used to go and hang out all night watching them film various scenes. After it was finished the film sat on the shelf a couple of years then it totally flopped when they finally released it in '73.

Re: Forgotten mainstream movie classics

I'll throw one of my favorites out there:

Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels

You've got Guy Ritchie, Jason Statham (before he was an action star), Vinnie Jones (excellent character actor), and Sting in a movie with British humor at which even us Yanks laugh out loud. Combine that with several mini-stories that wind together to form a continuous plot line that has enough twists to defy predictability, and you've got an under-appreciated classic.

The original Rollerball with James Caan. If it's on TV, I'll always watch it, even though I have a digital version sat on my harddrive.
I wish someone would start a real Rollerball league. You can't go wrong with rollerskates, motorbikes, spiked gloves and steel balls

I'll second the nominations for Tango & Cash and Lock Stock - both awesome.

And add one of my own - Big Trouble in Little China. A young Kurt Russell and Kim Cattrall, crazy monsters, ninjas, lots of action - what more could you want?!

Re: Forgotten mainstream movie classics

As its mainstream, how about The Big Chill and Blues Brothers? Blues Brothers I guess is not forgotten about though. And what constitutes forgotten about and or mainstream? How about Caddyshack? Animal House? The Longest Yard? North by Northwest? Vertigo? Any Marxx Brothers movie (thanks young frank! a classic). Jesus Christ Superstar anyone? The list is endless.

I suppose to comply with the thread title it would be movies that your average moderately informed movie buff hasn't heard of, or forgot .

I think this fits the criteria, just a decade old but big cast and seemed to slip under the radar.

Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.
