| | What are your fights?
Slow day, lots of arguing, and a sense of boredom got me thinking. I mentioned somewhere else that we all pick and choose which fights to fight. Some people are vegetarians for ethical reasons, some friends back in the US don't shop at certain stores because of their policies towards employees, some others don't buy certain goods, and so forth.
It's not a matter of who's right and who's wrong - we are all right in standing for what we believe, within the realms of what is legal. It's also not a matter of agreeing or disagreeing - there is always someone who will disagree with whatever you say/do. I recognize the high controversy potential in this thread, but please, I hope the tones will stay civil. I am just curious about what gets people engaged and what people are passionate about. Sometimes, it is not even a rational choice, but more a "sentimental" one.
What are your fights? Mine are:
1. I refuse to wear diamonds and any kind of precious stones
2. I refuse to travel to countries which do not recognize the country of Israel
3. I respect everyone's beliefs, but I refuse to do business with people who consider women second class citizens
4. (In the last 1.5 years) I refuse to move to an apartment with a laundry schedule
On the other hand, I smoke, drink, I like to go hunting (and help prepare/ eat the meat we hunted), and I have no issues with bankers, although I am not one myself
Looking forward to reading the replies!

Ending the membership of the UK in the EU.
Not a fight, as such, something I strongly believe in. I'm not sure why, tbh, I'll never live there again, but I hate to see my mother country bled dry by a bunch of non-elected, self-serving eurocrats.

I do not have any fights or any formulas. What I would like to see is more awareness, open-mindedness and tolerance around me: people being able to embrace all kinds of Otherness. I am not only thinking of racial or cultural differences but also about individual differences regarding personality, which always cause unnecessary fights. Why so few people can take another person for what he/she is?

I fight for the consistency in thread moving, post deletion and PR statements by the mods.
Yes, my life is that boring.

1) I believe strongly that everyone has the right to their own body - this right before any others. No one should have any parts cut off without their own conscious choosing. No one has the right to cut off parts from anyone else without consent.
2) consistency in logic - sexism in particular works both ways
3) I am a guest here - my host has the right (and duty to their children) to set up his/her country's rules to maximise my stay (of my own free will) to their advantage. In particular I notice many threads from people who seem to enjoy the Swiss benefits without putting the same effort into adding value to the country.

Oh, that is a tough one. I used to be very militant, but I learnt eventually I have to restrict my fights...
1) I fight very strongly against mistreating of women, no matter the reason for its origin (political, economical, religious). This is usually the only topic that gets me really into berserk mode.
2) I'm not a hippie, but I also pick a fight on the complete dependency on technologies, especially when it's about the status of owing a specific brand of gadget. I’m one of those against complete brainwashing and monopole of the masses via Big Brother suppressing of self-awareness.
3) I fight for understanding in its purest concept. I noticed a couple of years ago I was unconsciously volunteering as a mediator between heated arguments, trying to calm people down and help them fight their fights in an adult and peaceful way. So I guess I’m the Little Ambassatrix of the Day to Day Disputes.
4) Homosexual rights.
Not very consistent, I guess...

I like to buy and wear jewelery with diamonds and precious stones. However during the course of the day you’ll find me only wearing two gold necklaces or pearls. I refuse to engage in conversation with those who are anti-Semitic and make blanket statements about Israel. I also refuse to engage in conversation with anyone who starts stupid threads like “Country XYZ has done horrible things to citizens of country ABC”. I am not fond of hypocritical people who get offended by adult topics, but continually post innuendos on threads. I don’t travel to countries where women are stoned to death, castrated or lashed to death cause I want to come back home in one piece. I have no issues with non-bankers as long as they do not constantly make jokes about bankers. I wear fur and eat meat and oh I drink alcohol. I do very bad things and I do them really well.

. | | | | | Actually, this march for tolerance was the only one that I have ever taken part in. It was quite scary with the stones and eggs thrown at us.
I guess my another fight is against the stereotype of a narrow-minded zealous Pole. We are not all like this, you know.

Many thanks for the replies so far, please keep them coming. It is interesting for me to see what people fight for, or are passionate about. I think that our engagement in the world around us, whichever shape it takes, is what keeps us alive and motivated.
