Cities and their songs

Empire State of Mind by Alicia keys with (I think) jay z is just essence of New York City. London on the other hand is London Calling by the Clash, down in the tube station at midnight (jam) or maybe the bells in London town (light of the world). All rather worryingly from my youth

I was thinking, what are the songs that define certain towns for you?

Re: Cities and their songs

nice idea, FabrizioM
to me (and my generation) if you think of switzerland you think of lugano and if you think of lugano you think of... Lugano Addio by Ivan Graziani. still today a beautiful romantic song about a southern boy falling in love with a nordic (swiss) girl and a wholly new world north of the italian border

Ooh that brings back some memories. We always sang it on coach trips when I was a kid.

My son loves it when I speak with my Yorkshire accent, I must teach him this one later.

My other half once thought the farmer was a foreigner when he answered the door to him one day as he couldn't understand a word he said. When my dad came to talk to him there were two foreigners around. OH couldn't believe that they were both actually speaking English.
