Scottish justice for foul mouthed fare dodger

Don't mess with the big man! Moment furious passenger threw a foul-mouthed ticket-dodger off the train

Footage of the teenage troublemaker being thrown off a train by a fed-up fellow traveller on the ScotRail service between Edinburgh and Perth has become a viral hit after being uploaded to You Tube.
It begins when a conductor is told the teenager doesn't have a ticket and tells the driver of the train to stop until the youngster gets off.

When the youth refuses a shouting match ensues until a passenger, later referred to as 'the big man' leaps to his feet and frogmarches him off the train - and keeps pushing him off when he repeatedly tries to re-board the service.

A two-and-a-half minute video clip - ‘Scotrail No Ticket’ - was posted three days ago and has already been viewed almost 200,000 times.

'I WAS MANHANDLED': INCREDIBLE CLAIMS OF TEEN PASSENGER

'Fare dodging' passenger Sam Main, 19, has defended his behaviour after being tracked down by a local paper.
He told the Edinburgh Record: ‘I had been out celebrating after an exam and I was half asleep on the train.

‘I did have a ticket but I must have handed over the wrong one to the conductor. The next thing I know this big guy is manhandling me to the door and throwing me off.
University student Sam, who is studying surveying, added: ‘I couldn’t believe it when the footage turned up on YouTube.'
He said he still has cuts and bruises over his cheeks (pictured above) and legs.

And i read in the scottish newspaper too that police are hunting the "big man"

The police should give it a break, this guy was quite obviously a pr*ck who had no ticket and deserved more than what he got

Re: Scottish justice for foul mouthed fare dodger

So what's the truth then?

If he did have the ticket, then the "big man" should up for assault, ABH and potentially GBH.

What I don't understand is why someone felt they needed to record it all. Was it pre-planned or is this now standard, are all activities recorded all the time in the hope of those 5 mins of fame?

Re: Scottish justice for foul mouthed fare dodger

This behaviour makes me really sick. The ticket inspector is a cantankerous old jobs-worth and was almost certainly not following the correct procedure in the event of someone not being able to show their ticket.

And as for the 'big man' ... I don't think so. Simply a big thug with a pea brain who should not be hailed a hero.

He's even admitted he never had a ticket. He says he bought a single going and asked for a single for coming back because his return was off peak and it turned out cheaper that way.

The ticket guy gave him two singles for going by accident. He should have bought another ticket instead of acting like a little shit. The big man should be honoured as John Smeaton was during the Glasgow airport attacks.

I agree with you Nicola. There are standardized procedures for such eventualities (yes, even in Scotland )...and applying violence to eject a passenger certainly wasn't the most tactful solution IMO.

Re: Scottish justice for foul mouthed fare dodger

The guy didn't deserved to be treated like that. He fare dodged, not attack nor use any kind of violence what so ever.

If he didn't want to move, than call the security. Not the job of a joe blo to kick him out of the train.

And I was also very shocked to see them treating him with so much violence in front of young kids. Big shame.

Someone punch you and you punch back. You are the one in trouble. And so many people on this forum made it clear about it. But hey, the fare dodger guy sit quietly, not being aggressive and it is ok to hurt him and pushed him like that?

Re: Scottish justice for foul mouthed fare dodger

Whether he had a ticket or not, the big man has assaulted him.

What annoys me though, that the police hunt for a guy who is dealing with a ned who simply didnt go by the rules on scotrail. And by the way, he claimed to have a ticket but couldnt show it on the train nor afterwards to prove it. The police should be spending more time looking for these bams who attack people unprovoked in Scotland, it happens so often and happened to me too.

The conductor reacted wrong. The process is to offer to send a bill to the persons house, not to hold a train back.

By the way, this was not glasgow, this was in Linlithgow, near Edinburgh

Where you watching the same video as us? Turn the subtitles on and you might hear the part where he's swearing in front of those aforementioned young kids.

The big man did nothing wrong. The kid had no money to pay for a ticket an no ticket...OFF

Call the police or the railway police or security...as they would eject him without punching him in the face..and thus avoid possible legal action.

Re: Scottish justice for foul mouthed fare dodger

Considering the threads we get here on Swiss Jobsworths, you'd think everyone would be against the old man for not showing a bit of leniency like everywhere else in the world apart from Switzerland.

The source is DM, "Fare Dodger" is in quotes, the victim is a youth not dressed in a suit, I very much doubt it's the full story.

If you watch the video from 1.34, you'll see the big man physically push the conductor off the train. That's not hero behaviour, that's just being angry, aggressive and out of control.

Screaming words are very little to compared with physical violence resultings in pretty obvious cut, bruises and scratches.
