I asked the exact thing last week and have not got a response in the forum. So, unfortunately, I can't help much there... however, I saw a full "Truthahn" in the frozen section of Migros for 33sfr... I think it was around 2,5kg

If you want one from Edeka you must definitely let them know in advance so they can reserve one for you. The butchery deprtament at Edeka have reservation forms, and whole turkeys are one of the options.

I think the same is more or less true of most other places as whole turkeys are not that popular in Germany and many places will only order them if they know have a customer.

Re: finding a turkey over the German border ( Ganzer Truthahn )

I didn't have time to stop in and ask details but I noticed when I was in Reihen (Basel area) on Monday that one of the local shops is advertising Christmas turkeys.

The shop is Henz Delikatessen.

The shop has lots of other really great looking stuff too, alas, I usually walk by when out for a stroll with my m-i-l and nephews so no time to pop in and have a look around.

Not across the border, but there was a stand at the Gourmesse, today, of a place specializing in high quality poultry, including turkeys here in Switzerland: www.gefluegelgourmet.ch . Apparently, their turkeys have about 5-7kg, the one they had on display looked huge to me - but I am German, so my point of reference is the goose, not the turkey, anyway.

Dunno how much such a turkey would cost. Expensive, I assume, but hopefully worth it.

I can't help with turkeys in Germany as I always order mine from Migros. So far they could get me anything I wanted. I once had one weighing 11kg, the last one however was only 8kg, still a nice bird though

Re: finding a turkey over the German border ( Ganzer Truthahn )

You do realize that there is a weight limit on what you can import?

I order mine from Manor, have gotten up to 14kg (max that will fit in the oven)

We have ordered ours the last couple years either at
marktkauf in weil - am -rhein or at Hiebers in Grenzach-whylen.

you need to order it in advance and our turkeys have been between 6.6 kg and 8kg

happy turkey shopping
