A minimum of respect please?

English forum has great people contributing in here. Lots of those people did give moral support, help and guidance to everyone who asked for it.

When someone decide to leave the forum for personal reasons and want to inform the members of their decision and why, the minimum respect to give to them is to accept their decisions and their reasons.

I am very disappointed of the mod who took the decision to trash Porsch's farewell yesterday. It is disrespectful and bad manner. I waited to see if the thread would have been back where it belongs after some members mentioned it but nope, still nothing.

If long time members are treated this way, what does it says about the forum?

The forum is what it is because of the members.

The thread most likely closed because people couldn't leave it to be a farewell thread, but much rather had to instigate and involve useless banter such as Paul etc. Also, on the subject of a little respect, we are using this forum for free and are allowed to pretty much do anything given, we play within the rules. Do you therefore, find it acceptale, to trash Paul, the rules or the new terms and conditions every chance we get?

Re: A minimum of respect please?

It was closed because it is forum policy to close goodbye threads.

It was trashed because the existence of another forum was acknowledged, and that isn't allowed by some bloke in Munich who tells lies about our friends. :)

To trash Paul? No. To ask him to keep his promises? Yes.

Instead to close the thread, mods could have ask to stay on topic. They could have done some moderation instead to close it and drop it in the trash.

LOL

It was quite interesting looking at the list of 'rep rankings' and seeing that there are still many forum legends quite high on the list even though they were banned/left many moons ago (Lob, DaveA, gregv, peachy just to mention a few) after the first major change after Mark passed away. Also many of these peoples threads still live on today.

cheers

Indeed. And everyone you mention is still sharing his knowledge, experience and wisdom with the world - just not here. :)

Re: A minimum of respect please?

The point is Porsch had the respect of a lot of people in here. To trash his farewell est degueulasse (for lack of better English word)

I bet our friend in Munich wishes he could close the Viadukt, Facebook and Swiss telephone companies and send them all to trash. :p

There'll be a few of us at the Viadukt this evening, if anyone is interested. :)

Do you really think so?

I thought it was the timely and though-provoking analysis from The Local that keeps us coming back.

Well, it is for sure the best journalism we saw since the beginning of this century.

DB, I used to really enjoy reading your posts.. well written and full of wit. Now its just rancour. I don't mean to be unwelcoming, but if you find EF so offensive why not just take a break from reading/posting. I care very little for inter-forum politics, but I do care about maintaining a friendly atmosphere on here, and constantly sniping at people doesn't help. The point has been made, can we please move on now?

Cheers

So Castro, would you mind to explain to us why a farewell is put into trash?

It's not shit when someone decides to quickly say farewell when living EF.

This on the other hand...

Re: A minimum of respect please?

the new owners buried there heads and hoped it would all blow over, they paid a bit of lip service with the meets, but never listened, and surprise surprise people are still leaving

oh well

I think most people are aware of the other forum now, it would be very interesting to know how EF's traffic stats have been holding up recently.

the local have no respect for the members here, really, they couldn't care less, they only care about traffic, ad revenue, and posting there totally worthless shit 'news' stories, the mods are stuck between a rock and hard place.

What have you possibly contributed to the forum other than stupid pictures of cats? Nothing? Ah well, I rest my case then.

Enough to keep people interested. Or to contact me outside EF.
or be consistent enough to not post stuff like

Come on, guys, do we really need the friction?

Why attack one another..I am not talking about the trash move here, but members getting in eachother's hair.

Happy holidays, tout le monde.

I still have to buy presents, finish a few more batches of cookies, clean up, jebus. And mod. And have another class to teach and for the 6th time run through 20 xmas carols :msncrazy:

Have some eggnog, everyone.

Your friend has taken an exit that does not allow him unfortunately stick for himself.

What a bummer.

People, I know self deletion is dramatic, but why not just log off. Why grand stand. The noise seems to be an advertisement, that last Porshe's note actually really was. Too bad he went, really.

I am sure the quality of the other place does not need the help of advertising.

Still don't answer why to put a farewell in the trash.

I honestly think porshes goodbye thread was a good thread and he just wanted to say goodbye and he wasnt disrespectful at all, neither was he trying for a desperate call to grab attention. Unlike other members attempts and their threads were never closed... Unfair!

Newsflash : You guys are not in kinder garden anymore.

Or atleast I think.

Ouchie, Nil : It was sad how his leaving was handled, but thats how it is here, as we have seen. So, there isnt a point in bringing this up.

LiB : Dude, you need to lighten up. We know this has hit you the hardest.

That will be all.

Tune in on the next thread for another episode of Dr. Phil.

What does that mean?

It sounds to me as if the EF is scared of defectors and is trying to prevent it by East Berlin style walling off of references to the outside world.

If people want to leave they will leave, so deleting such links is not helping the EF survive in any way. But frank and open discussions are what has made the EF so strong and attractive, and part of that is the ability to link to and cross pollinate from outside discussions and threads to include rather than exclude those communities. It seems to me that the EF owners are on a dangerous path of denial and splendid islotaion.
