A minimum of respect please?

English forum has great people contributing in here. Lots of those people did give moral support, help and guidance to everyone who asked for it.

When someone decide to leave the forum for personal reasons and want to inform the members of their decision and why, the minimum respect to give to them is to accept their decisions and their reasons.

I am very disappointed of the mod who took the decision to trash Porsch's farewell yesterday. It is disrespectful and bad manner. I waited to see if the thread would have been back where it belongs after some members mentioned it but nope, still nothing.

If long time members are treated this way, what does it says about the forum?

The forum is what it is because of the members.

The thread most likely closed because people couldn't leave it to be a farewell thread, but much rather had to instigate and involve useless banter such as Paul etc. Also, on the subject of a little respect, we are using this forum for free and are allowed to pretty much do anything given, we play within the rules. Do you therefore, find it acceptale, to trash Paul, the rules or the new terms and conditions every chance we get?

Re: A minimum of respect please?

It was closed because it is forum policy to close goodbye threads.

It was trashed because the existence of another forum was acknowledged, and that isn't allowed by some bloke in Munich who tells lies about our friends.

LOL

It was quite interesting looking at the list of 'rep rankings' and seeing that there are still many forum legends quite high on the list even though they were banned/left many moons ago (Lob, DaveA, gregv, peachy just to mention a few) after the first major change after Mark passed away. Also many of these peoples threads still live on today.

cheers

Indeed. And everyone you mention is still sharing his knowledge, experience and wisdom with the world - just not here.

Re: A minimum of respect please?

The point is Porsch had the respect of a lot of people in here. To trash his farewell est degueulasse (for lack of better English word)

To trash Paul? No. To ask him to keep his promises? Yes.

Instead to close the thread, mods could have ask to stay on topic. They could have done some moderation instead to close it and drop it in the trash.

Do you really think so?

I thought it was the timely and though-provoking analysis from The Local that keeps us coming back.

Well, it is for sure the best journalism we saw since the beginning of this century.

I'm a bit worried. You're only talking about mods, right? You're not expecting the commoners like me to also be respectful and polite are you?

Re: A minimum of respect please?

I think the forum survived the storm and it provides me with comfort and lots of laughs on a daily basis.
Thank you everyone for posting and Merry Christmas! It is heartwarming to know that the forum is there for us.

I don't sense any apocalyptic shadow.

Re: A minimum of respect please?

If you don't like a neighbourhood, you leave the neighbourhood, stop. You don't go door to door telling everyone how miserable their company has been and then leave.

Ok, you can do that, but then don't expect farewell pat pats in your back.

Re: A minimum of respect please?

EEK! Just logged on

Nil - Not sure if I can add much to this odd thread, but to my mind (personal thoughts, not forum rules) - I think that if somebody chooses to leave with a kind word and dignity, then the thread should and probably would stay around.

If however the farewell is more tilted towards attack than best wishes, then it feels a little like playing to an audience (maybe not even this one) and then is inevitably headed towards closure. If you re-read the thread, there are no thanks, no appreciation, no kind words towards his friends here - and so I think it was met with the respect that it showed.

Shame that one guy playing to the crowd in a different place managed to cause infighting here though
