Having someone telling you that you deserved it because you groaned or bad rep is a pity answer and goes against the forum rules.
If one should expect abuses as a normal reaction for using the rep system, well it should been take off the system. | | | | | If you call somebody an idiot out in the public, he will most probably neg rep you, Nil. If you get neg repped once, report this, chances are mods might actually see you calling him an idiot a little "non kosher" and one time neg rep as not really abusive.
There is zero automatic process, though, case by case.

If the idiot called bad rep you and goes around your post doing a groan fest, it is still against the forum rules.
I heard stories of people getting gang abuse on the forum. Having a member getting other members to have a go at one person while mods sitting back and watching.

I've been groaned at and even red bobbied several times for absolutely no reason except the other person obviously mistook me for somebody who actually gives a Schmidt. Groan and blobbie away I have a real life off the forum. This doesn't stop me from doing this to somebody who is clearly out of order though.

It only creates childish groan fests and animosity among members. | Quote: | | | | | I heard stories of people getting gang abuse on the forum. For the second, I wasn't there it is how some felt. On that note, I'll go and marinate my Christmas fish for tonight. |

| | Re: Online forum abuse, is it real? are you a victim? | Quote: | | | | | There's been abuse of posters happening on this forum. I have been called names, red blobbed, etc. just because another poster felt like it. There are have been other posters as well who have been unnecessarily hassled.
It's one thing to disagree with a poster due to a topic or feel provoked by a poster and respond to it, it's another thing to be terrorized or stalked by someone without knowing why.
I'd like to open Pandora's box and talk about it.
Thoughts? | | | | | Well it seems that in every forum, there are few control freaks who will take whatever you say way too seriously. Let's say your first ever thread was about politics and you told people you were conservative, those few will hold a grudge and will troll you on other topics. They will jump on any thread you post on and try to insult you. I think they have issues.

Agreed, but who really cares? I do on one hand find it sadly amusing and on the other accept it that in a foreign environment some people have little else in their lives, a little power, contrived or not is warranted to give to these people, because that is the English thing to do... God save our Queen !

Olygirl - it's your poetry. I tried to tell you nicely ....
Have you ever considered an occupation writing those little notes and jokes that you get in Christmas crackers? I hear they pay good bucks for a good bang ....

For Goodness sake, where does all this negativity come from. If you have strong views about some things, as I often have, then you have to be prepared for people to tell you they feel differently- fair dos surely. And if they want to groan, well, fair enough too. If you can't cope with this, then maybe not express such views which may 'clash' with others. I often disagree with people but accept totally that is does not make me right or them wrong or vice-versa- we just disagree. It can be a very interesting process and exchange- like the thread on minimum wage- lots of food for thought and interesting comments and points of view- even if at the end of the day we still disagree, it made me think, and that is good. Been many a thread where others have made me see things from a different angle- and helped me balance my thoughts. For instance I like moggies, and I truly think moggies are happiest with access to outside. But I can see that pure breed cats bred from indoor cats maybe better as indoor cats. I still disagree about the fundamentals- I would never have an indoor cat myself- but I can see where others are 'coming from'. Fair enough. But if someone tried to tell me that de-clawing is NOT cruel, I would never ever change my view that it is barbaric. If 'groans' ensued, I would not complain.
What a shame some seem hell bent on making things unpleasant here - there is just no need really. What happened to the season of goodwill. If you prefer it elsewhere, fine- but no need for all the unpleasantless, honest.
Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year to you all

| | Re: Online forum abuse, is it real? are you a victim? Here are a few suggested guidelines that might help this thread. 1. No stalking. 2. No inappropriate name calling 3. No more than one unprovoked red blob 4. When asked to leave a person alone, then do it 5. No harrassment if a person doesn't want to meet you in real life
PS: Note that poetry is not listed

Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year to you all | | | | | Thanks, Odile and Olygirl, the words of wisdoms..
Be aware, if folks disagree with yer posts, and you don't want to get envolved, just move over to the next thread. If you feel like challenging people or voicing opinions, get ready to some disagreeing with ya. It's the way people deal with others disagreeing with them, that says a lot about a person, me thinks. Feel free to report abuse, but folks simply disagreeing will hardly be taken for abusive members.
Happy hols to all wherever you happen to be, to the furthest corner of CH.

| | Re: Online forum abuse, is it real? are you a victim? Here's the 2012 version, up for EF Referendum: 1. No stalking stalkers or deer. Or Canadians, eh. 2. No inappropriate name calling. Yeah, that applies to you too dipshit. 3. No more than one unprovoked red blob. Once per 28 day menstrual cycle anyway. 4. When asked to leave a person alone, then do it. Unless engaged in S&M; then they don't really mean it. Use the code word. 5. No harassment if a person doesn't want to meet you in real life. It's just about your job and lack of earnings. And your atrocious spelling and punctuation.
6. Poetry is forbidden. Forever.

| | | | | Sir, I kindly disagre with no 6. Poetry is hot.
And, you forgot, if people don't gel with your posts, don't drag them across the forum and call them gays hitting on ya. That's like...so 90s. Same applies for "what do I do with 200 000 a year".

You have more stripes on your shoulder and I therefore humbly bow before the veritable holy altar of moderation, literary control and nonsensical censorship.
Now, about the 1990s, there were some good CDs released back then ya know ...

All poetry haters need to contact mods directly. I can't help a person who doesn't have poetry in their soul.
