How do you let off steam?

If I were a volcano, I'd be erupting right now. I'm thinking of buying a punching bag to help alleviate negative tension. What ways have you discovered of disposing negative energy in a positive manner?

Re: How do you let off steam?

Understanding and running are my personal favorites.
Understanding for "superiority" since lots of stuff is provoked, and running for running. Also dancing (dancing equals running at nighttime).

Re: How do you let off steam?

Vigorous physical exercise. Put on some music you know and love, loud, and go for it: sing, dance, spazz out, whatever. Or if you play an instrument, switch off brain and do the same. Perhaps a Rocky-style montage of all three.

I usually find that during a buildup of negative energy, I can't focus too well on a given task that really matters, so it's best to pick something that involves channeling that energy into something where you can afford to be slapdash.

Thanks for your ideas. Can't run at the moment and mortal combat is out of my league. Maybe I'll form a voodoo doll and stick pins in it.

Re: How do you let off steam?

Turn on MTV, put on earphones and dance to ridiculous music vids with a lot of gestures. I do that frequently, I'm serious.

note:my dancing is of course, unlike of those in the vids, not ridiculous.

Re: How do you let off steam?

Or I simply shout my anger at my white wall to let it all out. My white wall knows me well enough to know sometimes I need to scream the anger against the dogmas, idiocy, stupidity, retardeness and plain bloody crap of the human race. My white wall is awesome. He knows he can count on me for the same.

Singing in full lungs either Depeche Mode or Peter Gabriel also helps when I'm too freaked out to have a cooherent rant.

I do a pretty good angry David Gahan...

Re: How do you let off steam?

I workout at the gym and/or listen to loud rock or heavy metal music; go running; go hiking. The sound of breaking glass helps if I'm in a REALLY bad mood

Re: How do you let off steam?

one word: Bach.

Even at my angriest moment, I pop on one of his CDs, take a deep breath and all the tension melts away

Listen and tell me you disagree

Re: How do you let off steam?

Singing is definitely good for letting off steam. I play this loudly and sing it at the top of my voice, especially the chorus (poor cat )

I've had enough of crying. Getting angry and letting off steam is more constructive.
