I feel sorry for you teacher for being so wrong.
I mean as long as there are numbers left in the periodic table there are possibilities that there will be new elements tha account for these numerical identifiers.

Just wait till they start finding elements with an imaginary number of protons.

Re: Ask a Scientist

Unfortunatley yes. Even as a high school student I could not believe she was trying to tell me that, it just seemed so wrong to me.

Nutella hygiene

A friend of mine has a habit of scooping out Nutella on a finger and gobbling it down right from the digit. He also double dips. So the slobbery finger goes back in the Nutella for a second (or third or more) fix.

I told him that he was not only contaminating the sacred spread with his mangy finger but introducing bajillions of bacteria and who knows what else from his mouth. He maintains that the sheer levels of sugar in the spread kills those nasties, otherwise one wouldn't be able to store it at room temperature.

I pointed out that peanut butter doesn't have the same levels of sugar but is also stored at room temperature, but he then had jars of both open and was making semi-liquid Reese's cups on the end of his finger at that point. I could just about make out "I'm the only one who eats it anyway" but it could have been "I'm a pig so beat it get away".

I'm no biologist micro or otherwise, but I feel a duty to inform my friend if he is creating lab experiments in his gluttony- or is he right, that the little microbes die a sweet death in those jars?

Re: Nutella hygiene

It depends how fast he eats the jar. If he keeps it for long, sugar could breed bacteria more than any other petri dish. Should he polish it off within a few days, then I wouldn't worry.

I don't know about the nutella, but if he had done that to my Marmite, I'd chop his hand off

Re: Nutella hygiene

I wish I actually liked nutella. But marmite and peanutbutter is much more betters. And chedar.

Online shinenigans are less appealing. Especially if it is your wedding aniversary

This thread reminds me of a great Seinfeld episode in which Mr Pitt eats a Snickers bar with a knife and fork and then everybody picks up the new eating trend.

Bottom of a jar of a sticky, nutty, chocolatey spread perhaps???

"Darling....clean those fingers and see what you can find in here!"

*shivers slightly*
