The Trolling Anti Feb 14th Thread....

So that time of over exploitive, superficial cash in, mark up, oooh I love you Honey day is soon on us again...

But, unlike other threads I wish for others to join me in a grouchy "why do I have to buy a gift or flowers and bend over to receive an over exaggerated dinner bill?" feeling.

Don't get me wrong, I very much like taking the other half out and buying gifts when I feel like it, but not 'cos some social event says I should.. I LOVE fine restaurants and Champagne but it does niggle me a little when I go into somewhere I usually frequent and feel like I musta broke a chandler when the bill arrives on SUCH a special night akin to "mothers day" or any other commercial fleecing calendar entry Bahhhhh HUMMMBUG ( or the St Val's eqiv ) LOL

p.s Happy Valentine's Mods... Please don't merge this with any other normal Feb 14th posts but please do feel free to move to Rants as you see fit S.W.A.L.K

Re: The Trolling Anti Feb 14th Thread....

We have heard you, loud and clear! No EF events are planned for Tuesday 14th as everyone is staying home.

Buy your flowers tonight guys, and give them tomorrow morning early before breakfast, you might even have time to get a leg over!

Hands up everyone whose birthday is 7th November

I like your principles though- be nice to your girl, and you are more likely to get positive reactions.

Reminds me of the old joke - two woman sitting at home having a chat and one looks out the window to see her husband walking up the drive with a bunch of flowers. She sighs loudly.

"What's wrong?" says her friends "Isn't it nice that your husband brings you flowers?"

"No" the wife replied "It means I need to spend the weekend on my back with my legs apart"

"Why?" replies the friend, "Don't you own a vase?"

Re: The Trolling Anti Feb 14th Thread....

I appreciate that my husband asked me if we do celebrate or not this year. Like last year, the year before and the year before that, I said no.

Just checking Honey!

A guy wants to be sure ya know?

I am against that crap-kitsch-over-the-top-heart-Love celebration... I know he loves me, I love him and we have many occasions to show it to each other.

I think you are very much right. I mean...if there are no surprises and other occasions...just the commercial ones...what is the point? Or if he/she forgets birthdays and anniversaries...do not come with red chocolates on Feb 14!
Well...for me it is quite easy...my wife and I have the same birthday and we got married on our birthday :d I mean...how could I forget?!?

Re: The Trolling Anti Feb 14th Thread....

Aah, as this is a leap year, can hardly wait to go out to watch for any fabulous romantic females getting down on one knee

dates are dates, whether it is 25 Dec 14 Feb, you can switch the dates to suit your lifestyle.

Had a good night out at one company I worked for, on 14th we decided to have a night out for singles could include couples, who were not out on romantic dates

To see and spend time with my true love is super

14th can be a fun day, send a message to a friend to cheer them up

Re: The Trolling Anti Feb 14th Thread....

When we were at school...it was a huge thing. Who got a card, and then the guessing starts...who was it from, who do you think dunnit? Innit cute.

Now I am happily married and do not need cards or red roses to remind me that I should say I love you, or what you mean to me etc. Dont get me wrong, no. We say love you many times, and we have an awesome marriage...so red cards and flowers is not needed.

Psst: I saw my daughter (9) making a card for her dad, how sweet is that . I just hope that there is not a few other red hearts that will find a way to the neighbours son... ..plse, not yet!

One year, I went out with a friend. We went to see the movie "platoon", had a nice dinner, then went to see "black widow". It was the perfect evening for the unattached.

This was before I even knew my husband.

And, in the 17 or so years we've been married, I don't think we've ever done valentines things. We do eat chocolate, but that's normal life.

To me, valentines day is more a kid's thing anyway...sugary hearts and paper valentines that you have to give to everyone in your class.

Re: The Trolling Anti Feb 14th Thread....

I never liked Valentines Day, too commercial for me.

But a few years ago, I had a rather nice experience:
My boyfriend at the time and I agreed to not celebrate Valentines Day. I was quite happy about that agreement and so we didn't

So on the 15th you should have seen my face when I watched a flower delivery lady walk in to the store I was working at and hand me a really big bunch of long stemmed, dark red roses!
THAT was REALLY lovely!

It's not about when it happens, as long as it happens
