I was at a conference in La Palma a few years back, and rightly so, the resort was a bit isolated and the bus services pretty few and far between. However, whilst I went into the capital to find smewhere to watch the 2007 RWC final (without success I might add) some colleagues went on an organised walking trip to see some of the island's volcanos. They were very impressed with it.

There's also an observatory there, but I'm not sure if it's open to the public.
Edit: unless you weren't already aware, the whole island is basically a giant dormant(?) volcano and if a certain faultline were to catastrophically erupt, half the island would slip into the Atlantic, causing a giant tsunami to destroy the eastern US seaboard.
just sayin' as all.

I need to know as my brothers birthday is coming up and I don't want to waste money on a card.

About 16 mi. inland according to the theory quoted in Wikipedia. Buy the card, just in case |
