That rumor is as credible as the "rather credible rumor" that was circulated last year and two years prior to that in almost identical form, claiming that Germans only request German-printed EUR banknotes when withdrawing money.

But the mass of hoi polloi needs constant rumor mongering due to short attention span.
It's credible as no sane group of people would 'postpone' the decision on the Greek default until after the Greek elections. I mean, are they hoping for a miracle son? The current government is as pliable to the Troika as it's going to get. No, really, the only explanation is that they're buying time and, besides being reported in some of the more reputable news outlets, it just make a whole lot more sense than folks waiting around for a bloody miracle to happen. My only hope is that these folks who don't appear to know their arse from a hole in the ground know what they're doing and the default is contained. It's not rumor...it's the only thing that makes any sense at all given the way the ECB has been behaving.

Since we're bashing....

Don't you hate it:

When the Zürchers have the audacity to bash Kanton Schwyz?

Hypocrites, I say. They come to our lovely canton to hike, ski and see the Muotathal theater. Some choose to live in Canton Schwyz because of the schools and, of course, the taxes.

And yet they have the audacity to call us the Congo.

Unappreciative bashturds.
The nickname CONGO for the Canton of Schwyz was unknown here until being brought up by a chap from the United Kingdom

You can hardly blame outsiders who follow the luring of the Canton of Schwyz in regard to taxes.

Yes, more and more Zürcher move into the March region, and so, by peaceful means may succeed in what Ulrich Zwingli failed to achieve by military means

Defeating the Nazis ? Ending the 2nd world war? Ending the cold war ? Ending the Kosovo war ? Defeating the terrorists in Afghanistan ?

What crisis in the last, say 112 years, have Europeans been able to solve by themselves withouth American help ?
1. Defeating the Nazis: true.
2. Ending the 2nd world war: same as 1. and then they started 3.
3. Ending the cold war: what ended the cold war was that communism didn't work. The US profited massively from the cold war in terms of foreign policy (back then, the US were still "the good guys"), domestic growth / economic growth, technology. If it had been up to the US, the cold "war" could have gone on forever.
4. Kosovo: The NATO did that - lots of nations had lots of aircraft there. The Swiss army is still IN Kosovo, btw.
5. Defeating the terrorists in Afghanistan: last time I checked, that hasn't happened. Also, the US armed the terrorists there in the first place.

I have absolutely nothing against the US - I have family there, I've lived there, I love that country. However, modesty is not one of its strengths, never has and never will be. And it's a sad fact that in said 112 years, most conflicts got started because of failed US foreign policy operations preceding those conflicts.

So in ten minutes it changed from "credible rumor" to "personal opinion".

Impressive!

Did the "credible sources" fail to materialise?

It's the only thing that makes sense and, if your idea of credible for a 'credit event' would be the Telegraph, read http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/f...-the-euro.html

But, hey, if you really want to think that 2+ years of Riverdancing around this issue can go on indefinitely, even with riots in Athens, go boldly into the void young man!

I have yet to meet any locals who bash the US at all. in fact, most of the Swiss I have met are big fans of both the US and Canada, perhaps because the locals I tend to hang out with are well-traveled and therefore less prone to the kind of insular and provincial thinking that plagues so many people (and that thinking can be found everywhere).
Exactly if you go to "provincial" areas and speak with NOT-well-travelled people, you will be astonished about how popular the USA is there.

If you however go to university and ETH, you may well meet people who are ANTI-....... whatever. And for instance feel like "Nieder mit den Alpen, freier Blick aufs Mittelmeer" ! (down with the Alps, free view onto the Mediterranean) and "Trau keinem über Dreissig" (do not trust anyone above 30)

one thing you missed, Wolli - unlike Switzerland, you can order your meal in Italian anywhere in New Jersey and be understood.
Nonsense, they only understand Siciliano or Napolitano, hardly Italian!

However, we'll give it a try this summer, when we head over for my grandfather's 100th, as my wife ONLY speaks Italian!

@ St2lemans,

I guess it depends on which part of the body is US and which is Swiss

As for Canadian slagging the US, it comes with having a political elephant as a neighbour when you are a political mouse. Canada's boarders are surrounded by 2 options, water or the USA.

The term "the devil or the deep blue sea" comes to mind, we watch their elections with great interest. From what I have seen of the Republican Leadership Race.... I think I would take the deep blue sea.

Re: When the Swiss have the audacity to bash America

Hey Brother, I'm new on the forum, read your post and thought I'd put my 2 cents worth in. Trivial thought; about 5 Switzerlands will fit in Idaho (probably get 10 in Texas) This country so crowded ya can't swing a dead cat without hitting someone and yet the population isn't as large as Los Angles county. I've eaten at better Taco Bells than 90% of the restaurants I eaten at here...shiky shiky. My wife was born and raised right here in Der Schweiz and she cries while listening to Dwight Yokum and looking at our old pictures of the States. She also agrees with me about the food.

I'm gonna hit the sack now but I'd like to talk to ya some more...so perhaps we will...No matter what happens in this world, we Americans will always be Americans. I've been a lot of places and there is no country on this planet like the USA...God bless America

the rather credible rumor that Greece will be pushed out after COB on the 23rd of March
Since this thread is already way off-topic, can I ask what COB stands for?

When your ENTIRE country can fit into one of our FIFTY ONE states
In Swiss schools, we teach them 50 states and a federal district. Yes, Swiss Gymnasium students need to know the difference between a state and a federal district. Obviously, Americans don't need to.
Fine by me, but that doesn't help defending you against the alleged bashing.
Love you anyway, don't worry.

Well I don't mean to ruffle any feathers! I'm assuming that most people on here aren't Swiss, so I have a safe place to say these things. It's just frustrating being from a country I'm very proud of and feeling like I have to apologize for that! Everyone should be proud of where they came from. And I guess I don't understand this whole "hating of a country". I've never hated any country. I don't even hate Switzerland as a country! I'm more annoyed with the worldwide criticism of America. :/ No country is perfect politically.
Wrooong. In other news, at school we spent two months on the United States (America being an imprecise term) and I can name all 50 states (I don't get confused at the number) plus their 'capital' and a few additional cities, the most important mountains, rivers and lakes, the national parks, indigenous species, what sort of climate is to be expected where, what industries are important to those regions, important dates in US history, most of the presidents and important export goods. We spent additional time on LA and NY, learning the streets and how the cities evolved. We also had a quick look at the political system and some important US inventions. I have never set foot in the US, but have been to Canada and Bermuda. I know all those things about those places too because I am interested in the world at large and am aware that we are just one country of many. When I go somewhere I don't know much about (we only had two hours of geography and two of history per week at school) I read up on all the stuff above because I like to know about the place I'm in.

What do you know about Switzerland? Most Americans (even many of the expat ones) know NOTHING about the outside world, they seem to not care one bit. That comes across as arrogant, hence the bashing.
