Defeated the Nazis - managed that all by themselves? Again?
WWII - last in, last out. US contribution to the effort is better measured by their manufacturing (which we paid for - it wasn't given freely), than actual men contributed. Germans were already in retreat/stalemate before US turned up.
Cold war? That they probably started?
Kosovo? They did what exactly? Wasn't this a UN 'victory'?
Afghanistan? They started this one as well?
Vietnam? They started this one too?
Iraq? This was a multi-national effort in the true sense, so hardly a "US saves the day" example. In fact, the US did have more blue-on-blue than the rest of the nations combined, so hardly a shining example of the US saving the day
Pakistan cold war (2009-)? Another war they've started all by themselves.
Suez? Nope.
Libya (2011). Another UN affair.

etc etc...

Oh wait, I forgot - meant to be humourous now. doh.
Grenada geez! you forgot Grenada http://www.worldatlas.com/webimage/c.../caribb/gd.htm

as bad as we gringos have it sometimes, at least we're not Brits. nobody outside of a small group in Argentina can even be bothered to hate the Brits anymore.

You need to be careful with statements like this. There are texts in my country that are being written to de-emphasize the reality of slavery. According to certain people it's ok to talk about civil rights but the whole slavery thing is just going too far and a blame game.

The fact that it happened, ???
Unimportant! (to some).

As someone has said, "One is entitled to their own opinions, just not tried own facts."

Re: When the Swiss have the audacity to bash America

I really can't keep track of the positive/negative comments about the US in this thread, but since Greece keeps coming up, let me tell you my view on the Greek issue as a Greek.
The soonest we default the best. We should have defaulted 2 years ago, when we owed most of our debt to banks, but anyway, it's never too late to do the right thing.

I feel a bit guilty for the money the German, French and other peoples of Europe gave us to pay back a part of the debt to the banks, because apparently at some point they will have to realize that they will never take this money back, but well, it was their governments decision to not let us default back then.
So I don't feel TOO guilty. And the only reason I mention the German and the French separately is because their leaders are the ones to blame. The other countries had to follow what they big boys* decided.

*By "big boys" I mean a lady (Ms Merkel) and a guy 1,60m tall (Mr Sarkozy).

Yes, but here you can fly it 24/7, whereas in the US it's only dawn 'till dusk (unlike the stores).

Tom
And from dusk to dawn if it has a light on it, unlike the Swiss shops

Don't feel guilty as this has been two years or more in the making and Germany, Finland and the Netherlands have been reluctant in the extreme in the last year to give more and, I suspect, the populace of these countries are willing to break consensus and stop payments. This whole situation is like a carnival in the extreme with little making any sense at all save for the bankers who have made a lot of money and still stand to make even more on the default. I'm not sure who to blame, it's probably not even worth wondering about at this point, but Greece will have to leave the eurozone and how that is handled will certainly rest on the Troika. Let's hope they've prepared well.

If I may say so, it is an interesting counterpoint in approaches where the eurozone has taken two years trying not to make a mis-step whereas the US, right or wrong, will make a decision overnight to prop things up instead. There are some good points and some bad points to both styles but, in the end, if it takes two years of dancing around the maypole only to still be at the brink of failure...I think I prefer the 'damn the torpedoes' approach as, right or wrong, you sink or swim in a single bold decision...not this chinese water torture of summit after summit after summit...

Re: When the Swiss have the audacity to bash America

There are two things I keep reading that make no sense, in fact are completely contradictory.

1. I keep reading that the american people are lovely, foreigner friendly, open and warm hearted and they love us all, and that it is the authorities, the government, the abusive military, the wall street bankers, the government, the republicans, the liberals etc etc who are the a-holes.

errm AFAIK all those a-holes are in fact ... well... americans. isn't it ?.

So this leads to the second contradiction

2. I keep reading the american people are all good hearted and the salt of the earth that illuminate the world with their culture, that is the government by an oligarchy led by evil financial, oil and military interests that corrupts all and had caused all the dammage america is know for all around the world for decades.

But wait. isn't america the self-proclaimed pallading of freedom and democracy and an example of how you can have a government of the people, by the people, for the people ?

So how can this nation that is the example of how democracy should be, can allow that evil olygarchy do all they have done ?

puzzling.

Re: When the Swiss have the audacity to bash America

@cannut

You have got to know Canada has the lions share still available of natural resources including fresh clean water (3rd in the world). Why do you think the US is so nice to us, if the world were not watching ...they would love to "naturalize us" and be one big happy family... with the bigger brother now owning all those natural resources.

" Brazil is the country estimated to have the largest supply of fresh water
in the world, followed by Russia and Canada" humm why can't I find Switzerland in there, all I can find is a notation of the most number of water fountains in a city .

Canada is kind of like the poot Hobbit Bilbo baggins in the Lord of the Rings, they have the much valued ring of resources but are not sure what to do with it.

Our present Prime Minister Harper is from Alberta (the Texas of Canada) and is very willing to do a number of "deals" with the US. It may just be a matter of time

you must have one helluva reading list, are you sure that the stuff you listed aren't simply the talking points for a Michael Moore speech?
