Opera in Frankfurt?

I'm going to the opera in Frankfurt next month and I have no idea what to wear. My only two other opera experiences are New Orleans and Montpellier.

In New Orleans for these types of concerts, you could dress up if you felt like it, or go in smart casual. (welcome to America). Montpellier, has a similar opera dress- if you really felt like it, ball gown, but I saw people dressed in jeans, I think this is because Montpellier is a student town. Every time I went to either I was in smarter business casual (nicer slacks, good jewelry, etc).

Anyone have any idea about the Frankfurt opera? If I need to ball gown, I need to know now. I know this isn't exactly the right place to ask, but I thought I would give it a shot.

Definitely no ball gown required. How much you dress up otherwise depends on which day you go and where you sit. It's a fairly modern buliding, nothing like Covent Garden or Opera Garnier. This picture was taken before a performance on a warm summer evening (and before most of the public had taken their seats...):

Re: Opera in Frankfurt?

Most opera in europe is smart casual unless you are going to Bayreuth, Salzberg Vienna or one of the other top festivals in which case black tie is de rigour (Bayreuth used to refuse entry if you were not up to their dress code)

I am a fairly frequent Opera goer, 3-4 times a year and any of the festivals for which I can get tickets
