Normally I like you, but Sun, please go away until Friday

Has this been a freaky winter or what?

Firstly, end of Novermber / beginning December panic started to set. Where is the snow? Even UK newspapers were moved to publish a story regarding the lack of snow in the Swiss ski resorts and a damaged economy fearing the worse.

Then BOOM! We were blitzed with snow and recently had a 10-14 day period of extreme cold temperatures. Fountains froze, Zurich saw more snow then it has for the last few years I believe, though correct me if I am wrong.

Now, we have gone the other way. The sun is shining, temperatures are rising. Engelberg, where I happened to go over the weekend was showing green grass in town when two weeks prior there wasnt a blade in sight. The lower pistes were really softening.

Now, we have sun forecast all week, no new snow in sight...............and my ski weekend holiday is this weekend coming!! PANICKED!!!!!

Next year reserve the third week in February, not too cold and good snow in the villages. If it doesn't rain, there will be enough snow for you next week.

(I read the headline as being about the Sun newspaper in England... )

Very icy conditions in the Jura today. We have chosen a ski resort with an excellent spa for later in March - so we will have the spa to enjoy just in case. Where are you headed- high resorts still have fab conditions.

The Sun and Murdoch though - I wish would disappear off the face of the earth. Who in their right mind would buy The Sun, before and certainly now. But that is a different story. The capital 'S' threw me.

Sorry to confuse with that awful comic.

On the plus side, according to j2ski.com, Engelberg has the most snow at 541cm, what's the chances of that decreasing rapidly over the week?

Anything over 2500m will still be in good condition. Engelberg is quite a long drive. (jeez I'm sounding Swiss) We were going to go on the weekend as it had the best weather.

I would head to Davos, Parsens. Sure to still be in good nick...

By the way I don't look up the weather on the resort's home page as I find they can be liable to a tad of fibbing.....

Oooh plus temperatures after lunch time.... Not looking good

Long drive? It's only an hour?? But we are getting train unfortunately and that's 1hr45, as there's 7 of us and we are bound to Engelberg by nature of chalet booking.

I tend to look at various sites, and on average seems it's going to br pushing 10-15 degrees Celsius max during day, with min -1.

I know a lot of their runs have snow machines though, but not sure how useful they are.

Conditions were mostly good all over on saturday but best above 2000

Actually Zurich had very little snow as did most of the country at the 450-500m level. We had far more in the previous winter when December had quite a bit however March 2006 was when record snowfalls occured.

There has however this winter been record snow in the higher areas
