Leaving Switzerland for UK / need good private health insurance for UK

A friend is leaving Switzerland and going back to UK. He will still keep his house in Switzerland but he will no longer be Swiss resident but UK resident. I guess it is not possible to continue with Sanitas full private coverage if one is no longer Swiss tax resident even if one comes back here for holidays and has a holiday home here.

If not possible, can anybody recommend a good health insurance company that is not too expensive but gives good private health insurance coverage for someone who is UK resident? That is in addition to NHS. Also a company that is good in reimbursing the bills as some insurance companies can be very untrustworthy.

I do not trust BUPA. Have been with them before and they never reimbursed me for anything....

Is AXA or PPP trustworthy? Do they give good private coverage and are they very expensive?? How much per month for full private?

Was this related to an undeclared or uncovered pre-existing condition? As far as I know, all private Insurances will either refuse to cover risky pre-existing conditions in the UK, or refuse to pay if they were undeclared.

Odile is right pre existing could be a problem.

I'm afraid I have no idea on covers and costs; I run Swiss insurances...

Just goto their online site and you should be able to get a quote PP always used to be a good company when I was UK based, unless AXA have ruined them!!

Re: Leaving Switzerland for UK / need good private health insurance for UK

To be honest I would not bother. If they put away every month what they were going to pay and then if they have a problem they can just ask their GP to arrange a private apt with the necessary Doctor and just pay then. Private appts are not that expensive and if there is an emergency then the NHS will look after them.
So many people do this as the private insurance firms can be really difficult and expensive.

All the companies are more or less similar. Good if you want to jump the queue for that minor operation, or series of tests. However ifyou get some long term condition the chances are that they will get rid of you and you will have to rely on the NHS. As far as I can remember lots of conditions only have 12 weeks cover eg kidney failure, terminal cancer etc. To put it bluntly you can't rely on them to deal with anything where you might actually benefit from a bit of cossetting.

Health Insurance for UK - Simplyhealth.co.uk?

Has anybody heard of this health insurance company for UK: Simplyhealth.co.uk? Are they good? Do Swiss insurance companies provide coverage if one changes his residency from Swiss to UK?

Have you looked into IHI? http://www.ihi.com/

I know of quite a few persons who went with the full private cover that IHI offer upon leaving Switzerland to live in the UK. There was no need for a medical check if they had private / semi private cover in Switzerland. But be warned IHI is a very expensive option.

Re: Health Insurance for UK - Simplyhealth.co.uk?

You don't need health insurance in the UK
You already pay 11% of income in national insurance contributions, why would you want to be insured twice?
Unless there is a specific service / privilege the insurance company offers in my opinion you shouldn't bother. These services are niche and overpriced.

Is it necessary to join another health insurance company BEFORE leaving a Swiss health insurance firm if one has full private and one spouse is 53 years old (for over 50s rules are more stringent) and have no time gaps between insurers? Is there an issue with getting coverage if there is a one month gap? How long does it take to enroll into thier scheme as they need to cancel our Swiss by March 31, 12.

Is it more expensive than full private Sanitas? For a very healthy couple in their 40s and early 50s with serious past medical issues it costs CHF950 per month total for both.

Swiss private health insurance covers all of these serious conditions. The main reason to get private health insurance is precisley for these long term serious illnesses, otherwise NHS is fine. Any suggestions how to find an insurance firm that covers serious illnesses like the Swiss insureres do?

In Switzerland the health insurance firms are really good. Even though very expensive, I trust them more than the ones in UK. So far I managed to get everything reimbursed and no issues... I wish I could find a firm like this for UK....

Yes it is more expensive.

If your friends are in a hurry and donít have the time to go through questionnaires I think the IHI private health insurance cover could be regarded as an option to cover the time between them leaving the country and finding a new Private Health Insurer.

How much would it be per month for a healthy couple APPROXIMATELY?? Is it a Swiss company or a UK one?

IHI is BUPA. They were with BUPA before Sanitas and BUPA never reimbursed them for anything ... they do not really trust BUPA... they seem to be very "fishy" if one is under individual cover. BUPA works very well if one has a corporate insurance scheme provided by one's employer.

Is this 11% automatically included in the income tax that I pay or is it on top of the income tax?

International Health Insurance needed ( UK citizen no longer CH resident )

Can someone here recommend a top, reliable International Health Insurance for someone who is no longer a Swiss resident, British citizen and UK resident who spends a lot of time travelling abroad? A company that can offer a lifetime renewal cover?

Can anybody give me some feedback on IHI BUPA? Are they overly legalistic and try to get out of insurance claims?
