US Diversity Visa Program

They say that a Swiss citizen has a 25% chance of winning a green card in the green card lottery. So far I haven't been lucky - this is my seventh try, this year's results will be out on May 1st.

I wonder if any of you have ever won a green card, or know people who have won it ??

Let me tell you this, if I should win this year, I'm gonna invite all you folks out for a drink !

Good luck this time. Not only have I never met anyone who won a green card, I have never met anyone who has won over a few francs in any lottery either.

Re: US Diversity Visa Program

I have never met anyone who has won the visa lottery and I've met a lot of foreigners. Sometimes I question this is actually real!

I have met people who have said they won but it turned out they married for a green card and one got his green card on an amnesty program.

In 2000 was real, I am absolutely sure 'cause an ex-neighbour of mine, oh well, actually of my parents, had won (in my country it is not uncommon that people living in the same building know a lot of each other). She was about 28 at the time, university degree, work experience..I (now) wonder how much of a lottery actually was. Anyways, she succesfully emigrated there, but "had" to marry before so she could bring her fiancee at that time, now husband. Not bad at all, they have 2 gorgeous American kids now..I am not sure what happened after 2001 though, I guess the whole system became so much more stricter, if actually functions at all.

My husband and I won a green card back in 1994. We are both from Russia. We played the green card lottery while studying in the US. But we had never claimed the green card and left the US a few years later.

When I lived in the US, I met two people who won the visa lottery. Both were from Ireland.

They issue only 55,000 or something a year. That's not many when you think about the size of the US and the number of applicants. We didn't even bother to apply for my husband... Just did the via marriage thing. That was fun. Not.

Good luck! Seven is a lucky number, after all.

And I've met a few green card lottery winners. They exist.

Bummer that I'm no longer a US citizen, otherwise I could adopt you!

Clearly I was hanging with a bad crowd.

Good luck! Let's hope 7's the charm or Poptart could adopt you since Tom can't.
