What is your tell-tale clue that it is spring?

How do you personally decide when winter is over and spring is here?

For me this year it was seeing the temperature creep back up to the point where we put our motorcycles in storage, and seeing bikers out cruising.

That, and when I start turning our heaters off.

Re: What is your tell-tale clue that it is spring?

Bloody allergies, which have been tormenting me for a few weeks now (there's a thread soemwhere on this).

Then other unwelcome clue is that the clocks go forward this weekend

On the otherhand, and to finish on a positive note, will soon be able to have a beer sitting on the grass in the park next to the lake less than 10 minutes' walk from work

The clock reads 05:14 on 20 March.

This is Switzerland. There are no tell-tale clues. Precision is all.

Spring ends at 23:09 on 20 June. Just to save anyone asking.

Re: What is your tell-tale clue that it is spring?

Yesterday - 21st March - we were being informed, on the radio, that it was the official meteorological start of spring.

Obvious really - nature's seasons coincide nicely with the quarter days/equinox - especially in CH.

The change in aroma - outside smells "green", more people (including myself) with windows open also means that in addition to the green growth, you can smell what your neighbors are having for lunch. Very homey and comforting to me. (The seasonal increase of "green" smell reminds me of my time north of Chicago, I loved my apartment there and the scent memory is wonderful)

I love that first day that you can here the birds chiriping
see the sun shinning so bright and feel it's warmth on your skin
you can smell the flowers and the freshly cut grass

it's also the first day the interns come out to sun themselves

Re: What is your tell-tale clue that it is spring?

When my cat wakes me up at five in the morning to open the window!

when its cold she has no desire to go out and freeze her bum on the windowsill. So I guess spring starts for me when the cat goes freely out and my morning coffee is taken between snores from the rest of the family.

Re: What is your tell-tale clue that it is spring?

When the Red Kites return and our field burst into 1000s of wild purple and white crocuses. When all the snow has melted from the bottom of our garden.

And when the groups of bikers start going mad- roaring their engines, and driving past at ridiculous speeds - they do not cruise around here sadly.
