Re: Would you give a potential employer your FaceBook, LinkedIn, Twitter passwords?

I have a few possible answers to a request like that from an interviewer

a) Let me have your password first and look around, then I'll think about it. After all I need to know as much about you as you do about me. Possibly more than you do..

b) If that's what you ask of potential employees, I am scared to think of what people who work for you are expected to put up with ... so no, thank you, but I'd rather not work for you.

c) I'm not on FB or LinkedIn or EF or Twatter or whatever else. Oh that? yup sounds like me, but could be anyone, really. Want me to show you how I can be You online??

Quite right. I assume anything I post is traceable to me and available for all to see. Except my end-end encrypted emails.

It does seem pretty juvenile and the fact that it's asked at all probably says a lot about the recruiter.

Another thing about privacy/security: if someone isn't careful about using different passwords online, their Facebook password might give a clue to other passwords they use (e.g. for online transactions).

Very fair point this. Something for everyone to be wary of.

Good Lawd, people, this is all very elementary. Haven't you noticed that, immediately upon graduating university, all American young adults switch their Facebook names to their first and middle names and not their first and last names?

I.e. John Jason Schwartz becomes John Jason as soon as "John Jason" begins job hunting?

LinkedIn, ok for future employers. Twitter and Facebook, not ok.
