I've downloaded both the Instagram and the Hipstamatic apps for Iphone4.
I don't get the excitement over Hipstamatic. The "viewfinder" is quite limiting and it's difficult (hah! impossible?) to frame your shot properly. I'll give them credit for coming up with some interesting filter combos, even though I think that the biggest contribution comes from the "lens" part rather than from the film (tested same lens w/ multiple films and the output was 99.9% the same...).
Instagram on the other side allows me to import from my regular photo collection; the amount of filters is limited, but somehow they're effective.
I'm not into the whole L4L F4F MMF BFF FFF thing

and some of the "social" action is to say the least, inane (i.e. all over the world tons of girls taking the same pics, with the same pouts and poses... zombie nation??)
Another photo app that I do find useful is Snapseed, as well as Photosynth (worth checking out - it's free!).
'Later!
