Help support our project! Bike fundraiser from Switzerland to France

Hi!
My friend Christian and I did a big charity fundraiser for a tica family living in San Jose, Costa Rica, by biking over 1000 km across France. We finished 2 days ago but still need some more donations for our project! I thought it would be a nice idea to have our efforts put into the public light in the expat community of Switzerland and hopefully we can get your support for our project!

This is our cause and our story:

We would really appreciate the support... we are trying to help this family and need to raise more money for the project to be a success!
Thank you for your donations!!!
Janine

So you want people to donate money so this family can open a restaurant?

It was a question to get to the bottom of what the donation meant.

Sorry. I imagine that English must not be your mother tongue. After reading the few very short paragraphs, one can surmise that you understood what this project is about. The answer to your question is, "Yes".

Fundraising for a Family in Need
Kike and I have decided to dedicate our bike-a-thon benefit tour across France to a very special family from San Josè, Costa Rica. This is their story:

Background

In 2007, I decided to go on a study abroad with the International Study Abroad (ISA) program to Costa Rica. I was to be hosted, along with another student, by the most wonderful tica (costa rican) family I could have ever dreamed of. A family of just three; Roda, a single mom, and her two daughters Navila and Mili. We were taken in and cared for as if we were part of the family from day one. Roda went out of her way to help us practice our spanish, she cooked for us every morning and evening, and helped us find our way around San Josè. I have been in touch with Roda over the years and have even been back to visit a few times, and always welcomed with open arms.

In 2011, due to the financial crisis, ISA had to move its premises across town, and let all its host families go. For most of them, usually single moms, ISA was their only source of income, as is the case with Roda and her family. The economic situation in Costa Rica is dire and unemployment is high, with very poor salaries to those who are lucky enough to find work. The goal of this project is to give Roda the ability to work a job she enjoys, with the guarantee of a future income and financial stability.

The Project

After some long and careful thinking about the best possible way that Roda is able to invest the funds raised in a sustainable manner, she decided that she would like to open a small restaurant or cafeteria, serving typical Costa Rican delicacies and desserts.

Roda is an amazing woman, full of enthusiasm and love, with the courage and open mind to adapt and take on new challenges, and not to mention, a fantastic cook

We hope that with this project, and of course, your generous donations, we will be able to raise enough money to turn this dream into a reality!

So you weren't even being condescending. I asked because while I think it is a good gesture to try to help people, I just don't see the use other then adding employment. There was a very detailed section in there about how there is very little work, and that work she had before was hosting foreign students or the like. After that, it says when there is work, it's very poor.

So from a business point of view, because this is what it is about right (Otherwise we would be talking about helping some one go to school, or invest in helping them move or make sustainable work), the website says there is very little economy and very had to survive, but the idea is to open a restaurant. If people can hardly survive, and there are no factories/and when there are they pay very little, how is it people will have money to pay to eat out of their homes? I mean you wouldn't open one here or the rest of europe with that business structure, why is it going to work in Costa Rica?
There is an excellent website, the name I can't think of right now, that works with people in the exact same situation. The exception is that small entrepreneurs in impoverished countries come to the site, which duals as a local bank, with their ideas, their experience, and what money they need to do, to make their ideas work. Normally it is for sums of 300 to 900 US Dollars. They propose the idea, and then people contribute what they want so that a loan can be made to them. A tiny interest, next to nothing is added, and those responsible people go about paying the loan back. It's a very direct approach to helping people who have solid business plans put together, who have a certain responsibility to pay back the loan.

All I am asking is would I be contributing to some one to open a restaurant in an area they say them selves is in an economic crisis? Any where in the world it's like one the last businesses to flourish or be sustainable when people aren't working. And so if I am going to donate money to help some one else, I want it to be meaningful.

And no, English is not my first language.
