Granada - Spain

Does anyone know how to get info on the famous "carmenes of Granada" ?
I would like to know the origin of these houses. Who lived in them ?
Why are they so secretive ? How do they look like inside ? Is it true that their gardens were copied after the hanging gardens of Babylon ? Why are they so famous ?

Re: Granada - Spain

As I understand it, a carmen is not a house, but a walled garden that is private.

I googled it and came up with pages in Spanish and German. I'm sure that, if you are interested, you'll have the patience to search for it in English.

http://www.albaicin-granada.com/html...otografias.php Even if you don't speak Spanish, the old pictures are worth a look.

http://www.spain.info/en/conoce/jard..._martires.html This one is in English, but only about a specific garden. It might give you an idea.
