Anyone rent a car from Holidayautos.ch?

I'm looking to rent a car when I go back to the States this summer and surprisingly found that booking through the Swiss site of Holidayautos.ch was much cheaper than the Kayak.com rates. This is even with the full package of insurance which I need to cover since I no longer have US auto insurance. Is this too good to be true? Anyone use them?

Yes, many a time and everything was fine. In the Summer I would even use them from the French side of GVA airport, which might be cheaper - apart that you will have to buy your own Motorway vignette at CHF 40 (would never use French side in winter as snow tyres and chains are not provided, and cost a lot extra per day if required).

I have good experiences with them when it comes to both price and quality. Although I usually find Auto Europe to be cheaper in most regions.

Re: Anyone rent a car from Holidayautos.ch?

I haven't used Holidayautos.ch, but I have used Holidayautos.co.uk, which is the same company I believe.

They don't actually rent their own cars -- they tend to have arrangements with the smaller local operators. This leads to lower prices, but a few cavaets to be aware of:

1. Often the cars are older / higher-mileage / dirtier / less-well-maintained than those being rented by the major agencies.

2. The smaller operators can be very picky about damage to the cars.

3. The pick-up is almost always off-airport, so it can be less convenient than picking up on-airport.

I think the risks are smaller if you're renting somewhere like the US, where even the 'smaller' players are reasonably big and where you speak the language. I used Holidayautos in Greece and Turkey, and the companies I rented from really did seem only to have 10 cars each.

As long as you know what to expect, you should be fine.

As an added tip, you should always look at the cost of buying CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) insurance from an independent company -- it can be much cheaper than buying from the rental company. Have a look at http://www.icarhireinsurance.com, for example.
