Help needed translating US to GB english.

Can any Americans here tell me what the word "Zippo" means? An American breeder described our new foal as a "Zippo" on our FB page, we can only guess they mean he's fantastic (as he is) but would rather be sure before we reply!

American here..

Zippo to me means either "nothing" (nada, nothing, zippo, zero) or an old school, refillable lighter. Perhaps he is referring to the foal as being full of fire, energy, etc.,...

Re: Help needed translating US to GB english.

It could also mean he came quickly or he is fast/energetic, ie, "he's got a lot of zip"

Re: Help needed translating US to GB english.

Zippo, especially if capitialised, is a popular brand of lighter (cigarette lighter), upscale compared to the cheap disposable ones. Perhaps insinutating a fireball, or spark or something like that.

Here is the website, implies also 'one of a kind'. http://www.zippo.com/

Re: Help needed translating US to GB english.

Thanks everyone, I knew that Zippo is a lighter so was thinking that they probably meant something on the lines of a bright spark, but wanted to be sure there wasn't another meaning before replying.

Not so much an American term - maybe it's a breeder term? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zippo_Pat_Bars
