Youth corps

Hello all,
Do they have some kind of youth corps in Switzerland where you can join and do community work like helping out the refugees, old people and so on.. I would like to find one so that I can spend my free time usefully..

Re: Youth corps

click in the box 'je veux aider'
then 'bénévolat' (volunteeering).

They work together with the Centre Social Protestant to help refugiees and asylum seekers in the area. And well done you for wanting to share your spare time and help others. Bonne chance.

BTW - on Tuesday nights at the Café du Cerf' go and join a French speaking practice table, for the price of a drink.

Re: Youth corps

There is an organisation Benevol, and they need people whom are semi to fluent in the local language. http://www.benevol.ch/ but the vacancies are mostly in the east.

I cannot say for sure, but I believe the asylum seekers are kept tucked away by the professional social workers, they don't want them wandering off into the community, they need them to be controlled.

However if your French is OK you could visit people in hospital. You could visit an old people's home. You could also ask at your commune where you can hekp out.

there's the possibility to join the boy and girl scouts, called "Pfadi" meaning "pathfinders" (no relation to Nissan). www.scout.ch

or my personal tip: the young firefighters, called "jugend feuerwehr": http://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/pd/de/in...feuerwehr.html
which is a subdepartment of Militia firefighters of schutz&rettung zurich

Re: Youth corps

Also Emmaus. Pretty worthwhile use of time I'd say.

Are you male or female? I know an organisation for women that could use volunteers.
