For most things these days it's a non issue. 100-220v 50/60Hz is what I see on pretty much every device made in the last 5-10 years.

Yes, I do agree that there is some specialist stuff that does require specific voltage and AC frequency, but it's highly unlikely you'll be traveling with this stuff.

There was an international standard plug and socket developed about 30 years ago. It looked like a mixture of German round pins, with British style mechanical shutters.

I suppose some idiot in Brussels sat on the idea.
