Acer Aspire base getting very hot - cause for concern?

I have an Acer Aspire 5750 and have just noticed that the left-hand side of the base is getting incredibly hot. Is this anything to worry about and is there anything I can do about it please?

Best advice is don't sit it on your vital parts unless you are looking for cheap birth control!!

Some like it hot - but it might be a lemon.

Funny that, I noticed that the base of my Aspire 5742Z seemed particularly hot a couple of days ago. Don't know if it's really any hotter than normal or whether I've only just noticed it.

Re: Acer Aspire base getting very hot - cause for concern?

I would have it checked...it is certainly not good for the laptop. Make sure and do not use it on a blanket and such...it needs to ventilate. It could be that the ventilation system got some dust on it...so it could be a few things...

Thanks guys! I like it hot ... but not this hot!!! I will take it to someone to check out the ventilation system. The atmosphere is particularly dusty where I am living at the moment so that could be the problem.

If it is dusty where you are than you will have the problem again. It happened to me with a sony vaio...I ended up watching the guy dismantling the laptop and I learned to do it myself

I'm sorry ... I can watch a guy dismantle my laptop but there is not a cat in hell's chance that I would be able to do it myself and get it back together to resemble anything like a laptop

Re: Acer Aspire base getting very hot - cause for concern?

I have a smaller 12.1 inch Aspire, and noticed heating only when on battery power mode. I sort of lived with it, and remove the battery and try to depend on AC.

Has not crashed on me yet, despite using HDMI, upgrading the memory to 8GB, playing HD movies.

I have opened it and sucked up all the dust and dirt that I could find, added some thermal grease / paste and yet it still happens whilst on battery mode.

Try with your lappy and see if it happens only on battery mode. Perhaps it is more than just dust or dirt blocking the vents or ventilating fan.

Apparently, you're not the only one.

Maybe something here may help.

Happy reading.

Thanks, but I never use it on battery mode (well, extremely rarely anyway). I guess it needs a good clean inside. I can't actually remember having heard a fan working before but I definitely can't hear one now.

Re: Acer Aspire base getting very hot - cause for concern?

the other option is to get a usb powered cooling base for laptops. Toppreise.ch will have them. Overheating components, especially batteries are a great way to make the laptop last a lot less longer...
