Re: who has a robot vacuum roomba/samsung

I am perfectly happy with mine and I take little notice of user ratings as the bigger marketing campaign the more sales so they go hand in hand and TBH user reviews are inherently biased. There are various independent geek reviews out there though.

I did however borrow a friends top of range roomba it took 45 mins to do a circuit of the apartment after a week of operating. Mine takes 20 mins but this isnt a "bigger swinging dick/pissing contest" so as long as people are happy thats all that matters right ?

I bought a samsung after a lot of research, the reason is it has a logical wsy of cleaning rather than the roomba random method of bumping into something then changing direction.
Which model did you opt for?

Because, yes, the samsung integrates a rudimentary navigation system, though there was very heavy criticism of the actual cleaning capability and tank capacity for several of the models.

If I remember correctly though, irobot bought the company that makes "mint", which has next to useless cleaning function, though an excellent beacon-style navigation solution. So that should likely be integrated into the roomba line before long.

Hah, awesome. Do you take orders?
Ha, the time involved would unfortunately drive the cost far,far beyond the sticker rate. I've used mine as dabbling test beds in my "spare time", so have added/changed things over a long time.

If you are happy with it then that's fine of course, but my point was that the with a lot of research, Roombas clearly have better overall professional reviews and user feedback.

Yup, seems to be a common theme.

Do any of the posters here who have a Roomba also have a dog?

....... Do you have a video camera?

Seriously, would it freak a dog out if left on it's own?

Not the best comparison I suppose, but anything with the "lighthouses" will do the zone deal.

Dog and two parrots.

The dog and older bird couldn't care less, and the younger bird hates the noise of a normal vacuum, so not at all robot related.

No youtube worthy clips here.

Thanks, that's good to know.

This was something I had considered (the Roomba that is) if I had an 'inside dog', just to maintain the house and keep it free from dog hair etc.

An obvious household clean is still in order, but just for the day-to-day maintenance I figured a device like this would be beneficial.

I used to have one dog that went ballistic about the lawnmower, and no amount of coaching ever eased her suspicion that it was a manifestation of pure evil...... the other dog (a staffie) didn't give a shit.

That's really useful info to know, so...... "Thanks"
(can't thank your post)

No no, nothing quite so stylish.

irobot makes a very nice power chassis. From the outside, it looks nearly completely normal - short the extra antennas.

It is not. It is my own personal R2D2 that will do the job I hate most while I am out at work. Anything that saves me cleaning effort is by definition exciting on some level.

Re: who has a robot vacuum roomba/samsung

Ok, I have now used the Roomba (henceforth known as R2, or Richba, depending on my mood) for 3 days. Every day at 12pm my robot son has patrolled my apartment, his little brushes whirring merrily as he collects my household detritus. Not a word of complaint has thus far escaped his little robotic lips.

So, how has he performed? In a word: bloody great. I purposefully didn't do a proper hoover before I started using him (iRobot recommend to start froma fresh base of hooveredness-nessness), and he has not dissappointed.

Day 1 - The floors were noticeably cleaaner, but when I put my finger around I saw a few bits of dust and dirt in various places that he didn't have time to get back to before he had to recharge.

Day 2 - Floors were even noticeably cleaner, but still a bit of dust in corners, where again Richba didn't get chance to randomly pass before he needed to go to the charge-a-loo to do his business.

Day 3 - Came home and did a test. Wow, the floors are better than when I do a hoover and take good care. I mean really, even corners etc are free of dirt. I found on a few bits inside some really hard to reach nooks and crannies, but I am being really critical here.

Clearly not only does the Richba do his job, but he really benefits from multiple daily cleanings in order to maximise coverage during his scheduled runs. If I want him to do a specific room that I disallow during the scheduled cleaning (like my bedroom, too many wires due to my poor organizing, I need to tidy them up for it to be Richba safe) then I just plonk him inside and press the "clean" button, and after giving him a playful pat on the rump he then dutifully gets about his business.

I had read reviews so I was expecting it to be good, but honestly it's a ridiculously convenient thing to have, and will mean that my floors (all hardwood and lino) stay clean with minimum effort on my side. Plus, it will have the added benefit of making me keep my floors clean of clutter.

So far I am thinking this is money well spent.

Which model did you get? I have yet to use mine on schedule mode or use the cool remote it came with . But it has served me well... I love that it can do under the beds...and keeping things free of clutter is a benefit. Now, if only the girls' room would clean itself so the floor is actually visible

Congratulations on the arrival of the valued new member of your family, Mr Dog!
Now if your ice-cream, chocolates, beer, wine and cheese start disappearing, you have someone to blame.

Re: who has a robot vacuum roomba/samsung

Well, it has now been a year since I bought my Roomba, and I can't imagine my first-world life without it. It has made my life noticeably easier by simply cleaning my apartment floors while I am not there, and I can't see me ever living without one (or the next best thing that comes along) ever again. I also bang it in my bedroom and then go out and come back to lovely dust-free floors.

Amazing devices, and I thoroughly recommend getting one. Now considering the irobot Braava to give my floors a regular mop.

hard to know without knowing basic things like size of your apartment, and your budget.
